GM transfer case question

I have a 1994 1/2 ton pu that has transfer case problems. A friend has a 1995 Tahoe he is parting out with a good transfer case. Are these 2 the same? If they are not the same could it be adapted with the right parts from both trucks?

There's lots of variations... manual shift, electric shift, automatic FWD, etc, and POSSIBLY different tailshafts.

If they are both the same basic style shift, look at the NV nameplates on both and compare model numbers.

What is wrong with yours... unless it has been run out of oil and ruined, they are pretty basic to work on/repair.

Since they are both mechanical shift, there's at least a chance they will interchange.

On the other hand, the problem you are describing is typically caused by the nylon tips on a shift fork wearing away, then the fork itself wears.

If caught in time, replacement nylon pieces cost only a few bucks.

If the link below works, you can see what happens.

(The fork in your case may be the same or differently shaped, but the principle is the same.)

There will be a round tag on the rear of case that tells what model it is, i.e. 231, 241, 263, etc. If the model numbers match, it should work as long as the shift style is the same. The trucks did not change much between 94 and 95, only the interior. I think the t-case is the same from 94-97, that is what I found when I needed one for my 96 Sub. The only options in the half ton is electric or manual. 98 was the first year for auto, and the trans is setup differently.

don't click on bob's 'fork' link. something wanted to update somethig and didn't want to leave!!!!!!!!

Oh, for gosh sakes, Sarge, the link is to Photobucket.

It ain't gonna kill anyone's computer.

The *#^&( page just loads all sorts of Flash animations.

I agree with Bob,below. What makes you think the other one is any better? They both probably need a chain also. Just rebuild yours, you will be happier and not have to pull it out again.

Bob,I know it's PB,but it wants to upgrade the player,so I went for it,and then it wants to repair my PC!!BTDT not again
