First time in many years I'll have venison. The Good Lord let us have one of his creatures @ 11:29 am today first day of season. We could of had two, the other was a doe,but we let her go by to perpetuate the species for future hunters. The 30-06 Remington did the job, used 180 gr factory round. From where we were the deer was about a block and a half away, 1 shot kill.We will let it hang and skin it in a couple of days, temps are at 32 deg F so it will cool and cure out. Seen quite a few hunters out walking the roads looking for deer to trip over, they never think after the first shot of the season the deer head for the swamps only to come out at night for forage.Been that way since I can remember, had to go thru swamps, tag alders to kick em out. I hope you guys and gals get to fill your tags and have a safe hunt.Warmest regards,
LOU

One like that hangs around my tractor shed. I once couldn't wait for season to open but, haven't killed one in several years. Just don't enjoy killing things anymore and really don't care that much about venison.

I wish you fellows were around here. Several acres of soybeans totally destroyed by deer. Department of Conservation gave nuisance permits but did little to thin.

My 16 year old granddaughter called yesterday to tell me she had gotten a nice 7 point buck that dressed out at 110 lbs. Last year, her first year she got 2. She comes from a big family and they will eat all of it.

That buck is the nicest whitetail in a long time
Its even has a roman nose.
You still have some good gene pools where you got him

Lou, In respect for your deer and all things wild a few suggestions.
Take your photos in the woods, Prop the head up to skylight it, Poke the tongue back in. Wipe blood away. NEVER use photos of deer in pickups with gallons of blood everywhere. That's just a chainsaw massacre photo.
I am NOT a tree hugger. I believe we sportsman need to do these things to keep the treehuggers off our as###es

LOU,

If not planning to mount the head... the way that rack is so wide, it would make a really neat coat rack.
