any Canadians have a good battery to recommend, I have been having trouble finding a good 6 volt here in Ontario, what do you guys use ? Thanks

For what? I'm not a Canuck but own some Canadian deep-cycle 6 volt batteries. Rolls-Surette Canadian batteries make some of the best batteries in the world. But you have to pay for that quality.

JD, how do you ever find out about all the stuff you know about? you never cease to amaze me!

I'm not a Canadian either, but aren't there any Trojan Battery dealers anywhere near you??? They make a decent 6 volt deep cycle Golf Cart type of a battery if that's what you need (you didn't mention). In this part of the USA big box stores like Tractor Supply or Rural King or Central Tractor or Orscheln and others sell 6 Volt Truck/Tractor Batteries.

"what do you guys use"

If I recall Ive used Interstate (pretty sure, its been a while, dont use many 6 volt anymore) Truck and Tractor 6 volt Batteries and for Deep Cycles, I've used Trojan, the ones sold at Sams Club, and others.

When someone asks about preferred brand of oil or spark plugs or batteries etc etc they often get all kinds of likes and dislikes and stories and opinions, always a fun read.

Tried a Yellow Pages or Bing or Google local search??? Sorry, I'm not familiar with Canada retailers so not much help here.

Best Wishes

I have not bought a six volt battery in years but the ones I have must be good as they have lasted a long time. Got a pair of sixes on an old 730 Case diesel that were bought by my uncle in 2002 and they still start the tractor. Co-op Sonic brand. Got another one on a Cockshutt 40 which was purchased just before the turn of the millenium. It is a "Power-Surge". They seem to have a good life span.

Well - I found out about Rolls-Surette Canadian
batteries because of warranty issues and the
State of New York. When I installed solar
electric grid-tie and applied for New York
State incentive money to pay for much of it -
they insisted I had to use batteries in the
bank with a least a 5 year warranty. I found
out fast that companies like Trojan and Deka
will not give a 5 year warranty to any battery
used in a solar bank. So I had to buy Canadian
batteries from Rolls. At that time - 5 years
ago - they were the only battery maker willing
to give such a 5 year warranty in north
America. That is unless I spent a fortune on 2
volt batteries from Exide that cost a small
fortune.

Trojan makes a good GC2 type battery. The famous T-105 golf-cart battery. Or the bigger L16. But unless there's a Trojan dealer nearby - they are a pain. Deka makes a GC2 battery every bit as good, cheaper, and available through any NAPA dealer with no shipping charges involved. Interstate makes nothing. Just buys from other makers and puts their own name on it.

JD; send me an email as I have some items from a battery back up system Dad pulled from a computer room years ago. I know you would know what to do with them. There is the front panel that has all the gauges and a very large rotary transfer switch. Not sure what else ? might be more. I'm about 70 miles south of Cleveland Ohio.

I guess I failed to mention that the 6 volt battery I need is for a Farmall c and needs to fit, I have had 2 Magna- Charge 6 volt batteries in the last 2 weeks and the first one discharged sitting disconnected and the second one that was a replacement has been on charge now for 24+ hrs and is still low in SG and charging a steady 4 amps, I dont have an alternative source close by so when I travel the 100 miles to get one I want a good one that is why the original post Thanks

Out West, we have Gregg Distributors.

I have bought 2 of their 6 volt Commercial batteries from them.

They are made in the USA, and also in Canada, I believe.

Paid something like $95.00 each.

Thanks JD, On some of the RV Forums I also hear good things about batteries sold at NAPA. I used to do a lot of business with the local Interstate shop (when a truck & tractor dealer) and regardless who made them, I always got good service. I have some Sams Club 6 volt golf cart batteries now, but the jury is still out as they are fairly new. Hey those Rolls are some battery !!!! but I will probably go with NAPA or Trojan etc in the meantime as they are so readily available here or in Florida.

As always, love our sparky chats

KEEP WARM NOW

Showcrop,
I've been on the internet on this forum for years. I have learned to trust JD marris posts and observations since the Oc 46. What I find intriguing is the fact the JD will back up everything he says. He offers no BS.Like many others I put his suggestions to work when needed, and his suggestions has pulled the irons out of the fire many times over for us.He is an extremely knowledgeable man,one you can rely on,when he gives you the answers to problems. My hat is always off to JDE. I read every post that he answers on here.If it says JDmarris,I read it first then go to the original subject. That man has the answers in fact if he doesn't know about a certain subject, he asks politely, but that is is rare for him not knowing.Nice to see someone else appreciate JDM.
Warm regards,
LOU
