OT, Dee Zee Truck Boxes

Alright guys, the time has come.... I WANT a box for the bed of my truck... I am tired of having 3 recievers, ratchet straps, chains and binders, and what ever else in the back of the cab with me....

Went onto FleaBay, and there are LOTS of Dee Zee Diamond plate (silver) truck boxes. They make them in silver, black, bronze, camo, etc. Mine needs to be Silver, you know me.. EVERYTHING has to match.. :)

I have a:

1995 K1500 Chevy
Extcab, short box.

The link is to the one that I was looking at. It is the smaller model, and I think that it would be perfect for me! Are they good quality? Does anyone else have one that they really like, Dee Zee or not?

Picture is of my truck, and me...

Dee Zee Tool Box Narrow.0

I think you will be happy with the Dee Zee box you have chosen. I like the single lid design, even though I bought mine used and have the 2 lid type.

I have that same box and it has been a good tool box. I bought it around 2000 never had a problem with it. Mine is the bright aluminum color and still shiny yet today

Great boxes, I have a full size, silver on a black F-150. Looks and works great. You will be very happy with it.

That is a good price, but don't know what latches it has. The soft metal hook latches are not very good or secure, but that box may have better ones. I run a Delta Gearlock low profile type on my 2012 Ford and love the great latches but it cost twice what that one does. That is a real nice pickup you have there. Hey, do you play any sports, like basketball?

Ya, I think that it would have to be a single lid for me... I could see it being a big fuss trying to get a long cheater pipe, big ratchets, highlift jacks, and such like the weaseled in through one door and across what ever to the other side so that you could get the two little doors shut...

A buddy went out and bout a 69.99 one from Harbor Freight... It is black plastic, and it is only about 5 inches deep, and it has 3 doors, only the kicker is, each door is it's own sealed compartment.... It is USELESS! Nothing that you would want to fit in those boxes does, and the plastic seems to be very cheap anyway...

The DeeZee is probably as good as any of them. Just one little bit of advice. Lay a piece of wood down into the bottom. I can be 3/4" plywood, or a 1x12 cut to fit. The bottom is weak and will eventually fall out if a lot of weight is placed inside. The wood will reinforce it.

nice lookin truck bryce!!! heres a pic of my daughters 93 z-71. it is her first car when she turned 16. still has it

Should be able to find many used on craigslist.
My truck came with one and I even had an 8 foot bed. I found that I did not like giving up the bed space for the box. I used a army ammo box the large one with the water tight seal lid and put all my goodies in there and set in behind my seat in the extended cab area. If it was in the way for when I needed extra seats I could set it in the bed since it was water tight.
Sure nice not to have that box in the way for hauling large items and lawn mowers and I could get to my front ties downs too.

Nope! I do not play basketball, and believe it or not, you aren't the first one to ask me that... :)

As some of you know, I am 16, and 6'5, I like being tall, but it makes LOTS of things a real pain!!

No sports for me, used to be very good at golf, but just lost interest and didn't really have enough time anyway......

Had a DEE ZEE.IMO there junk.Flimsy lid and loose hings.Bought a KNAAK Weather Garge and used it over 15 years on 2 different trucks. Better warrenty and better built.Another problem I had with DEE ZEE was bottom failure.Good Luck.

Bryce, IMHO I would Not Buy a cheap aluminum Crossover toolbox. Thieves.. Can, Do, make getting into an aluminum box as easy as opening a can of soup with a Pop-a-Top lid!! Please go get a RKI tool box and have it painted to match your truck!
Check out Craig's List, Thrifty nickel paper and find one to fit your truck. If You were closer to me here in Cen-Tex I would make you a H3LL of a deal on a narrow RKI Box!
There is a Story about a group of Hunters that went to South Texas to hunt.....
Waaayyy down practically on the Rio Grande.
After they had hunted for a couple of days they decided to go across the River into Mexico to get some Mexican Food and watch the Senoritas Dance (if you catch what I mean).
Not wanting to leave their rifles in camp where some thieves might steal them they put them in the tool boxes of the three Pickups they were in! One Box was a cheap Steel box like they sell at the Farm Stores around. the second was an Aluminum box the Third was a RKI Grand Canyon Style Box.
The Hunters Go in and Eat & drink buckets of Beer & Tequila while watching the Senoritas Dance....
They come out way late in the am......
First truck with the cheap steel top the lid was peeled back enough to get the guns out. Guns gone!
The Second truck with the aluminum box had its lid peeled back like a sardine can lid, Guns gone!
The Third truck W/ the RKI Box, It showed the scars where the Mexican Bandits did their best to break into it.....But Did Not Get in. The Box Didn't loose its integrity! The Guns Still there!
As My Mom & Dad used to say ....A Word to the Wise should Be Sufficient!
Please Don't waste you hard earned money on a shiny Cheap A$$ Box. Hope this Helps.
I have never seen and aluminum Box that was worth its For Sale price!
Later,
John A.

If you're gonna be a farmer you might want to spend a little more for a slip tank/tool box combo....sure beats carrying a gas can around.

In 2007 I bought 3 dee zee boxes for my full size GMC. The reason I went with dee zee is they were the biggest I could find, cost about $1k total.

I used to have delta boxes on my previous truck. That said, the delta's were stronger built, less flimsy.

Already had to replace the one lift shock on dee zee, others are going to need replaced.

If you want extra space like I did, go dee zee. Want stronger go delta.

I put one on my pickup in 1995 and it still
looks good.
It is aluminum and diamond pattern, has two doors facing to back of box. You open both and whole top is open and after a 100,000 miles it hasn't sagged at all and its full and heavy.

Buddy has an L shaped slip tank he has offered to give to me, it is a white one, and it is in very good shape.. Kind of small too, maybe 50 gal?

I put a Delta in my Dodge in 2004 and it is still fine. And it carries 80 feet of log chain and half a dozen binders all the time + lots of other stuff.

I'd check craigslist and see what comes up. Also don't forget that black friday is coming up and you can get good deals on just about everything then. As for you being tall I feel your pain. 6'4" and I hit my head on everything. Good thing God gave me an extra thick skull. I bought a house with 6' ceilings in the basement. That took several knocks to make me learn. But when you need to reach the top of something its nice to have the built in height.

Here is a pic of mine, probably less than four feet wide (room for the trailer spare next to it) and holds 75 gallons....and I don't have to worry about the tool box sagging! One of the best things I ever bought....
