Foundation Cost

The old family house needs a new foundation. Has anyone had one put in lately? Or has anyone had a house jacked up recently? I can estimate the dirt work, but not the jacking and cribbing etc. I figure about $1,000 for the concrete pump. The foundation is approx. 30x40.

There are so many variables that it would be impossible to give an honest bid. Any contractor would have to charge for any unexpected item and would not be cheap. you did not tell what kind of soil. the height of the foundation wall, what kind of forms needed, or what the building codes are.

The soil is sandy but I stated that I can estimate the dirt work. The height is eight feet on existing footing. The kind of forms would be the ones on the truck. Code is BOCA as pretty much throughout the country. All construction work in this part of the country requires permits and is inspected.

You talking foundation or new basement?

I would just get more than one bid, then you will know for sure, this can vary a lot by locality.

Ask Brian in IA.
I think he's the guy who dug a basement under his existing house.
It took him a year or two but he posted updates along the way.
It was an interesting project to watch.
You could also get yourself some radio controlled equipment and do it like this fellow did.
It took him 7 years to excavate his basement.

Sil just completed a foundation for a barn and the walls are 4' tall with cutouts for doors. The guy dug the foundation, poured the footing set the forms and poured walls for 5500. It's 35x50 and he's going to stick build the rest with a truss roof and metal sides and roof.
