68 ford c series cab over hydraulic clutch problems

problem is no clutch. pedal pushes to floor but seem no resistince like no fluid or air in system, pedal does return to up position by itself. drove it a couple days ago it was fine. started looking figuring it must be like a power brake system but cant locate any kind of resevoir any where. system seem to be a cylinder at the pedal inside cab conected to hose then steel line running along frame back to clutch another cylinder mounted on bell housing that activates the clutch. i know i'm missing some thing but cant figure it out. brake system hydraulic also seems fine. finding info on a 68 ford is tuff. hoping with all the wisdom out there some one can tell me what i'm missing besides an readable owners manual as mice got into the clove box and made a nice little nest out of it. thanks rocko.

There is for sure a reservoir on the cylinder at the dash. The line to the slave cylinder might be on the far side of the master cylinder attachment to the firewall. The reservoir is probably remote from the cylinder. (best memory I have) Probably a leaky slave if there is no Fluid in the cab! Jim

thanks jim, i'm going to go out to the shop and have another look. i'll let you know if i find it. thanks for the responce. rocko.

Drove a 69 for several years, should be the same. Clutch master is seperate from brake master.Look at the rubber boot around push rod from pedal at top of master cylinder. There should be a tab about the size of your thumb nail. Use tab to lift boot, add fluid to full with a squirt bottle.
If not completely empty, no need to bleed. Push pedal a couple times, any air in line will burp its way out the top, then recheck fluid level.

as stated; the clutch has it's own system. Works just like a brake system with master cylinder; lines and slave cyl. Many vehicles use a hydraulic clutch rather than the old mechanical linkage. Even have one on a 2014 freightliner.

had a truck that used the same resevoir for both the brakes and the clutch, not sure but it might have been an IH

Willie's got it .....I drove several different years of them , they all had the same clutch cyl . Just pull the boot up and fill it there.

thanks willie. yes i know exactly what your speaking of. just to clarify what your saying, the resivoir is actually under that boot? I was looking for something a little bigger like on a more modern vechicle. as a side question would it be the same set up for the brake fluid as when i was out there looking i couldn't find an more modern looking resivoir for the brakes ither. dosent seem like a large amount of fluid is gona go in there. thanks again rocko. and as stated before there is a lotta wisdom out there.

To add to what to what Owen said, there's no fill plug on the reservoir, you need to grasp the "dust boot" and tug it off of the cylinder, then fill the cylinder in that piston area, then put the dust boot back in place.

I agree, They had a couple c-600ds in a fleet where I worked in the 70's. its under the boot where the push rod goes into the master cylinder. seems like there was always someone pouring brake fluid on the remnants of the floor mats.
