My non mechanical cousin

Love him to death. We are 6 weeks difference in age. He recently moved across the road from my parents house and our farm. He's never really been mechanically inclined. I moved about an hour and a half away so I no longer and running my tractors all the time. Every time I go home I have to fix something. Well I went home last week and my Farmall H wouldn't start. My dad and I tried a bunch of stuff but it wouldn't run. It was like it was out of gas. My cousin did fill it up for me though so that was nice. Well I look at the carb. Here he had messed with the carb according to my dad(cousin had no idea what he was doing) and turned the main jet screw in the whole way.... WHY?!?!?!?!?! I set it to where I run it and it started right up. He also has left a set of my plows out without grease or paint after using them. So when I plow I plan to have him use the grinder and wire wheel to clean them before I use them. Love him, he is like my brother but man does he drive me nuts sometimes. Those are just a few examples of what he had done. Sorry for the long post I just needed to vent a little.

I wish you luck. I would just as soon have root cannel with out any pain killer as loan out machinery to someone like that.

"Non mechanical" That reminds me of a story I read in an autobiography by a guy who worked for MF. He spent some time in Africa and one day he was called out to look at a 135 that had 'engine trouble'. Basically it was a new fairly tractor with an engine that was totally wrecked. Removing the bowl from oil bath air cleaner he noticed that the bowl itself had no oil in it at all but instead it was full of dry sand! The driver said he had removed it only to find that "The old sand was dirty and oily, so I emptied it out, cleaned it and put some new sand in it".

I learned long ago if you don't know anything about carburetors and electrical stuff KEEP YOUR HANDS OUT OF IT!!!!! I can do some things but don't have very good diagnostic skills. Fortunately, I have a very good BIL right next door. I never nor would I ever ask to borrow any of his big stuff--a socket every now and then but that's about it. Then I buy that size socket so I don't need to borrow again.

Oh boy!!! LOL. They do have "dry type" air cleaners but I don't think that is what they mean. I will be shaking my head all day now....lol

Thats funny . I have a cousin that is the same way. He is about 3 years younger than me. He is a great guy and will give you the shirt off his back but he is Dummer than a box of Hammers when it comes to fixing anything.Still got to love them though he is family LOL

Do not say that JD seller. Years ago I had a root canal and for some reason the dentist could not numb the tooth. He drilled down slow(nerve was dead), but when we got down to good root it really hurt. If you had to live with that kind of pain, you would shoot yourself fast. I almost passed out 4 or 5 times. Never want back to him after the procedure was finished.

My brother once stripped 3 out of 4 spark plug holes on dad's 75 Johnson outboard. Dad was mad and asked "did you think it would run after you stripped the first one?" When brought the heads back from the machine shop he was laughing "he didn't strip the fourth one cause it already had a heli coil in it!" :)

Maybe he didn't have somebody to show him how to do it growing up so he's trying to learn now. Just because you know how to do someting doesn't mean everybody else does.
