Drug another one home...

Well, not exactly. It hasn't got here yet, but I have a 300 Farmall on its way here this weekend. So anything special I need to know? How will it stack up against my 2000 prior? I'm mostly a Ford guy, and know very little about the Farmalls. Appreciate any information anybody wants to share.

Thanks,

Mac

They are a handy size tractor for hay raking and moving wagons. The tall tires will get a good bite for pulling.

My Grandpa always said a 300 was a Super H with a bigger appetite. He only kept his a few years... but he had at least one H until he retired.
It'll have a few more horses than your 2000, and with 38" rubber and more weight, it will certainly out pull it.

A 300 is my "big" tractor, the other one here is a Massey-Ferguson 35 and the 300 will out-work it easily. I had an H for a few years before the 300 and liked it too, but this 300 has fast hitch, torque amplifier, live PTO and live hydraulics so it is very handy. I know there were 300s sold that did not have those options and were just basically like an H with more power. I use mine skidding logs, plowing snow, running a haybine and baler and pulling wagons.

Thanks guys, that's exactly what I wanted to hear! I am handing the 300 all the plowing, heavy tillage work, and hay baling, and letting the 2000 do the planting, cultivating, and the hay cutting and raking. Its a good looking rig, good runner, no rust or leaks, with good brakes and TA, which brings up another point: what the heck is a TA used for anyway? Like I said, I've never used one of these, so I'm all ears!

TA means Torque Amplifier. It reduces the gear ratio by about 1/3 ( and ups the torque) Effectively allows you to downshift (or up shift) on the go. The lower range also free wheels, I.e., no engine braking.

We had a tractor down one spring (red family) borrowed a neighbors 4020 a couple of days. Grandpa ran it said he didn't like it much, ta didn't seem effective at all - grandpa! That's the pto lever on a green tractor! :)
