Dog that caught the car....

Old line about dogs chasing cars....
"wonder what he will do with it if he ever catches one?"

"My side" won the election last night..big time.
I just hope they do a better job for America this time, than they did the last time we had control.

We need some ideas and actions to deal with our real problems beyond just saying "I'm agin it".

Wish I could be optimistic, but being a lifelong member of the party,I've been here before. I don't have any high expectations. Let's not foget,it pretty much takes 60 votes and we don't have them. If they do pass anything it won't be signed. All that's gonna happen is more shrill rhetoric from the other side. At least it was quiet while nothing was getting done.

I would suspect that the health insurance stocks may get a little hammered today, with the small prospect that they could loose some market share if we get lucky.

I am glad for the win but only hope that the new congress is able to stop the constitutional onslaught of the past 6 years. As far as ''doing'' anything, I would be happy with a whole lot of ''undoing''. Congress would be busy for years and we would all be better off if they did nothing but repeal ill conceived legislation and defund unconstitutional and unnecessary agencies. I have never understood the thinking that government is capable or responsible for ''fixing'' the economy or providing opportunity. The United States was founded as a constitutional republic and the founders included many safe guards in the constitution to prevent the power drunk from attempting to usurp the people by creating dependence on a central government.

whoa... they dont take office till jan 6th.... it wont happen overnite.

Loved watching most of the media making excuses for the results last nite... all about poor turnout, misunderstood voters... etc... they were all acting like they ate a turd and could not swallow... All the different interpretations of the world were absolutely amazing. Even the stories this am are amazing rewrites of the facts.

Hope I'm wrong but it'll probably be business as usual each politician looking to grab as much for themselves as possible before they get thrown out of office. The average working American has very few champions in Gov't these days.

A historical look on bills signed into law by congress shows that under external_link there were much fewer bills passed and signed into law that predecessors. Media and constant and expedient flow if (mis)information makes it seem like more.

'"they" could lose some market share if "we" get lucky'

"They" and "we" are one and the same. "Lose" and "lucky" are opposites, financially speaking. It seems that every mutual fund is loaded up with insurance companies.

Maybe fewer, but more insidious, and therein lies the rub. Start with obammiecare, and allowing various agencies regulators to write the rules sans congressional overview.

I am just glad the slinging is over, kind of like a tortured person that just wants put out of misery.

The problem is that both parties have been hijacked. They will tell you that they are in it for you good, but they are there for the contributors, otherwise the contributors would not contribute.

I'd love to be optimistic about how this is going to favorably impact our country, but then I remember that the primary thing our great leaders will be focusing on is the next election...and the next....and the next.....

Therein lies the problem! THEY ARE NOT OUR LEADERS! They are our representatives! If 51% of the constituents believe something is a good idea they are supposed to support it regardless of party line. And the biggest problem is us. We let them get away with them calling themselves our leaders and voting party line. Every time they do call themselves that they should get swamped with calls and emails calling them on that and reminding them as to what they really are. Every time they vote against our wishes we should demand a recall. Maybe then they would remember who is really supposed to be in control of this country.

Agree with everything you're saying. You couldn't see it, but I had my tongue
firmly in my cheek when I wrote "leaders". Should
have used the quote marks then.

ven if nothing else good comes out of it, at least maybe we won't see/hear as much from Dingy Harry!

I sure am not talking about just whats been passed lately, I'm talking about the majority of major bills passed and agencies created in the last 80 years. Do away with 80% of the federal bueracracy and restore states rights. Government interference is, has been and always will be the primary impediment to economic and social progress. In the small and impoverished rural parish I was born, raised and still live in we have almost non-existent government services and poor roads and a lackluster sheriffs department led by imbeciles but we pay next to nothing in property tax and every increase is always soundly defeated in elections, including last night when three proposals went down, this is exactly the way I like it because I want nothing from government on any level except to be left alone to sink or swim.

I don't mind some taxes. I like to be able to get from point a to b on a road. I like that road to be plowed after a snowfall. I like knowing if there is a major problem that help is there with a simple 911 call. I don't like paying for the wasteful garbage they keep shoving down our throats.

Rick

On the rare occasions we get snow it melts off the road almost immediately, I never remember a time when it stopped anyone from driving. Louisiana has the worst roads in the nation, period, and that is not going to change with additional taxes, the whole state is gumbo clay and there just is no such thing as a solid road bed. We don't have a 911 system in my area, it was attempted a few years ago and the address map was developed and the roads re-named and signs put up, all on a state grant, after several failed attempts to get a sales tax millage passed to fund it the idea was abandoned. I never had any confidence that it would have amounted to anything in our area anyway and apparently most of the rest of the people didn't either.

I maybe a pessimist or realist, but with an almost 18 trillion dollar debt and unstainable deficit, trillions in unfunded liabilities how can things change. It would be have to be an effort by the people greater than fighting WW2.
And, you are not going to do it with a president that reads Sol Olinsky before breakfast.

No mention has been made (here or in media) of possibly the most far-reaching effect of all- the inability of external_link to "pack" the Supreme Court in his last 2 years. 2 of the abundant justices, Stephen Breyer and Ruth Buzzi Ginsberg, are old and sickly, and uber abundant appointments by external_link, if he could get them confirmed by the Senate, would give the court a abundant majority for many years to come, with, IMHO, disastrous implications for the country.

LAA, You have every right to live there, with no roads and no services. But the Majority of us do not want to live under those conditions. We could move there if we wanted to, but we chose (our right) not to. I want an efficient government to provide the basic services I need for a modern lifestyle.

I have been to several countries with no/or very little government, and I was always glad to get out alive.

Edd in KY,

Your statement describes exactly how our republic is supposed to work, its called competition among the states, which is one of the keystones of states rights whose tenants the federal government has been steadily eroding for most of our history. That is the reason for the never ceasing push to ''level the playing field'' and so called ''fairness'', it is all intended to make every place the same and everyone dependent. I'm glad you like your set up as I do mine but, at least for the time being, we are both still free to move elsewhere if we think it would improve our station. I have worked in many countries with little or no government and still do, most of those places also have no income tax or sales tax so its not all bad.

This is supposed to be a conservative state, but the stupid voters approved a $900 million bond issue yesterday to build a new county hospital and new mental health facilities. State is already in the red and the court ordered the legislature to pay back $370 million that they robbed from the school systems.

Just those 2 items alone are going to result in a hefty property tax increase.

AMEN! Never mind doing anything! Start UNDOING the damage that has been done!!!!!!!!!

Last time around they had a perfect opportunity to undo the damage Ole Slick did to the Republic and they basically did nothing. I hope they understand, and I'm sure going to write them and tell em so, that they didn't get in because we like them, they got in because we disliked the others. I think if they blow it this time like they did the last time, their relevence is going to disappear for a long, long time.

How many things will pass without a Veto?

Definately think an energy bill should be at the very top.

How did you do from 2000 to 2008? Also, the money supply has increased by 200% since 2008, still feeling like you are gaining?

95% of the people lost, most dont realize it.

Why do we need an energy bill? Supply and demand will control everything that needs to be controlled.

Regardless of which party "wins", all but the top half percent or so lose: it's the nature of the game as it's been played for decades.

I know this won't be a popular stand, but I gave up participating in politics once I fully and deeply realized that no one can serve two masters (two Kingdoms), and my choice was for the King that reigns forever and doesn't need a vote. Besides, the Republic as intended was a faint history even then, and my continuing participation would legally make me an accessory to high crimes and treason. Yes, I've read the Constitution as written and amended, and more than I wanted to of the UCC.

While a lot of folks put a lot of energy into making sure "the right candidate" gets elected, my belief is that for any election of consequence, things are now fully rigged in advance. Why, after decades of party flip/flop in all branches of gov, have things gotten consistently worse? Because both Republicrats and Demicans are courting the same money (ie: sleeping with the enemies of We the People). By being a registered voter, whether you vote or not, you are accepting the deceits and the deficits they incur in "our names". My conscience refuses, my hands are now clean of that mess, and I sleep well knowing who is really in charge.

My hat is off to those who are at least trying to make things better on a local level, and I sincerely wish you well with your efforts. I used to be a volunteer firefighter (even a past chief), but got tired of others expecting me to be "the answer" to what they were unwilling to do for themselves. My observation is that it's only worse in the larger world. I'm now plenty busy doing the best I can to make a positive difference on this small patch of ground, and with the people I (figuratively) walk with. The task is often overwhelming.

God set Adam in the garden to till and keep it. Throughout history, most have followed those precepts and done ok "by The Book". Considering the source, I figure it's still good advice.

Just watch Megyn Kelly and sing along with Maria from WS Story, .
