OT Kohler 18hp Command Question Revisited

I have one question left to ask.
I took two of the hydraulic lifters out of the same cylinder on my Kohler 18hp command engine. I took one lifter apart and the spring was in the middle of the two lifter pistons/plungers. I took the other lifter apart and the spring was at the bottom of the two lifter plungers. Which is correct?

I found it,,,finally!

JohnB,
No idea what your answer is. The boys on garden tractor may have your answer. I did go to ebay and found used ones. CH18S. I think CH stands for horzontal shaft.

I wanted an adjustable carb for my CH 20. I put a want ad on cragislist. Got a blown engine off a cub cadet for $35 with older carb. A new coil is $50. I also got a used starter, which looks like my starter. I figure I got a good deal. The engine's cooling fins were full of dirt and grass. No wonder he had engine problems.

Hello John B,

If both lifters have the same part numbers, I would think one is wrong. If the spring fits snuggly on the bottom 1/2 portion of the lifter that is protruding, my guess would be that it belongs on the bottom,

Guido.

Hello George Marsh,

I think the C designation is for a cast iron cylinder..........

Guido.

I think that all commands are cast. I always thought that the C = command H = horizontal. Could be wrong. I have a 20 hp command, CH 20.

Don't remember what they call the cheaper kohler. The command has hyd lifters and roller main bearings. So far I have over 1500 hrs on my command. Still a strong runner. Doen't burn oil. Uses about 1 gal of gas per hour.
