what are the odds?

I have a 89' F250 and a 94' Buick. The truck battery went dead about 3 weeks ago, and, as it turned out, the alternator was not charging well. A week later, same thing with the car. Needed a new alternator too. Going back 2 years, each of these vehicles needed new water pumps within 2 months of each other. So, what are the odds?

Seems to happen around our place too. I grew up working in my dad's shop and it always seemed we would have a bunch of the same repairs come in at one time. I always thought that the weather, or atmospheric conditions, or something must have played a part in sending "iffy" components over the edge. Certainly not a scientific experiment, but it seemed to be our experience.

Part of Fords business strategy; they tell their suppliers that they want the parts to fail at 50K miles. An engineer at Motorola said that Ford insisted that the electronic parts be made the electronic pats to fail. Ford's alternate source at that time was a Japanese company that refused to make their parts to fail.

That's why I now longer buy vehicles made by the Big 3. I hate paying for a vehicle twice - the second time is over the parts counter.

Had a Ford Bronco II that had both headlights burn out within an hour of each other. Previous owner had same thing happen to him. Lost a headlight in the evening on the way home from work. Lost other next morning on the way to store to get new one. Huh?

if seals in head light went bad it would blow bulbs all the time due to moisture collecting within the headlight and subsequently blowing the bulb.I know it used to happen on my '87
mustang quite often until headlight lenses were replaced.
