Few days back,I ask this question, kinda stated it unclear at first, but meant "will this engine run if 180-pump] 360*-engine] out of time? had mixed response to this, but answer is yes in my case. got back to project yesterday, pinned flywheel & pump, disconnect pump from drive gear, [this is jd that doesn't use keyway] rotate engine 1 rev, repin flywheel. stats/runs great. It was starting with help [fluid] before & sounded like hitting proper, but black smoke.,lazy. this was a brand new reman pump, installed by person unknown. as someone else said, first thought is defect in pump. Now I know!! thanks all YTers for your input----

As I recall, that's about the same running characteristics as a Dodge K-car engine on which I replaced a head gasket. Got it back together 180° out of time- it would start, and idle OK, but wouldn't accelerate, and if you tried too hard to accelerate, it would die.

Yes.. I've seen a 500-C put back together without turning the engine when installing oil pump and injection gear.. Smoked like the dickens.. [ What ever a dickens is ]....

Hi
I was going to say if you get enough fuel in then yes. My buddy and I managed to get the pump timing 180 out on his puller when we fitted his new motor with old pump. it had a 13mm Bosch pump and 3mm lines. it was a sum beach to start, but ran, smoked pretty good revved ok, for a puller that was cold. but wouldn't start the second time we tried, that's when we clued in!.
Regards Robert
