Driving down to Minneapolis today and the DOT has the inspection station open, the sign says all trucks enter. So guess what I did, in our car? Don't know who laughed harder, me or the officers. 😕
 
This is a problem with aging, and doing something so much that you switch on "autopilot" ! Like we were talking about recently, did you really look in the mirror or not? And if you did, you'll never remember it.

I remember when I was disgusted with my father for doing things out of habit. Guess who's guilty now? Just got auto steer for a tractor. I used it to plant 90 acres of wheat. Right after I finished we headed to town for supper and groceries. I pulled out of the driveway onto the road, straightened out, and took my hands of the wheel!!! Fortunately I caught myself right away. And the wife didn't notice!
 
Boy, I've been close to doing that a time or two. It is a habit to pull into the scales when you see the "OPEN" sign on.
 
After I quit driving school bus it was a long time before I could go over a railroad track without stopping first.
 
Its been about 3 years since I've owned a manual transmission car/truck. Every time I need to slow down in a hurry for a deer or a dummy I jam on the brakes, my left foot automatically steps on the clutch and the right hand is looking for a lower gear, neither of which are there.

My first car was a "three on the tree" shift.

My parents Pontiac was a Hydramatic with reverse being all the way down. I rarely drove it, but caught myself grabbing the shifter, pulling it all the way down into reverse when taking off from a red light.

Never backed into anyone, but had some close calls! LOL
 
After driving a vehicle with manual transmission, stomped the floor with my left foot while driving one with a automatic tranny.

Really makes you feel silly.
