Just curious to how these work? Is the land owned by a private party and the particpants harvest the crop and plow the land for the land owner? Is there an entry fee? Thanks for satisfying my curiousity.

No entry fee or admission fee. All volunteer.

The land is owned by members of the club and their crop. Yes, the participants harvest and plow for the owners. Insurance is by the club.

Don't know that it will reduce costs. Your grain loss will increase, your liability increases, timeliness of harvest decreases.

Not much positive from a producer standpoint. Have to do it for the fun of it!

One plus to the land owner is that he gets his crop harvested for free. These are balanced by the things Roger mentioned. The old units have more losses than newer units (properly adjusted, of course). Mike

I must be doing it all wrong, after I furnish the beer and chili on a plow day it would be much more cost effective to do it myself, but it sure as heck would not be near as much fun!
