Thanks for the help with the conversion of my 7ft. sickle bar from rivits to screws and nuts. The job went pretty well. The next thing is to get it back on the tractor and see how well it works, with the shape the segments were in I am surprised it cut at all.

flembo,

Congratulations on rebuilding your bar. It looks great.

I posted another message to you entitled "Hey flembo". It's a few pages back by now. It addressed the ledger plates. If you haven't seen it, and you have a few minutes to look for it, I think it might be helpful.

Good job on the rebuild.

You will like the nuts and bolts. When I had a sickle bar haybine I went to the nuts and bolta because I could replace knives without removing the blade from the machine.

Thanks Tom I went back and read Hey flembo I will have to check the rock guards better but I believe they were the ones you mentioned without the separate ledger plate the rock guard has cerated teeth. The mower is about an hr. away I only have the bar at home, I will be up there next sat. Thanks again

Much quicker and easier in-field repair with bolts and nuts. Just a simple tool to pop out the broken, then insert new, tighten. Much quicker than even a rivet style sickle service tool, much less hammer, chisel, anvil. Only downside is a one-time change to high arch guards.
