Tractor Starts, but quits after just a few yards

I have a TO-30. BIL thinks it is not getting enough gas to keep it running. If I let it sit, it starts but does the same thing. I drained the carburetor, and opened the gas line valve. Gas came out so I know it's getting to the carb. I shut the valve and disconnected the gas line, then re-opened the valve. Gas came out. Should the stream be as thick as the line diameter? Seemed like even though gas came out, it wasn't as thick as it should be.

The fuel should come out full stream until the bowl empties out, then slow to a steady trickle. If it slows to drops, that's getting pretty slow.

When the engine tries to quit, slowly pull the choke , see if that improves the running. That will tell if it's fuel related.

I had a CC Case doing the same thing. It turned out that the little shaft the float pivots on was bent slightly not letting the float work. You could start the tractor but as soon as the gas in the carburetor was used up, it would die. We straightened the shaft and now it works fine.

Might want to take the sediment bulb, or connection out of the tank, after you drain it, and fuel line, and see if you have a bug or something slowing the flow down. also check the inlet on the carburetor.

That is a good point about the choke to keep in mind. That is what I always do, helps to pinpoint the problem.

Does sound fuel related, Larry. All the advice you have received is good. Start by playing with the choke as suggested, then clean the fuel delivery from tank to carb. Does the tank have any junk floating in it?
