Does anyone have any secrets to installing a rear crank seal on a D17 I put one in and after a little while it started to leak, It is a felt seal and seems to be to big for the groove it goes in
Many thanks

The key to a D17 seal is to soak it in oil before you install it. You also need to coat the inside of the seal carrier with #2 permatex

The seal is over size and you must make sure its all forced into the carrier and no matter how good of a job you do they will eventually leak.

Install it slightly off from the main cap joint. By this I mean if the main cap meets the block at 9:00 and 3:00, have the rear main seal joint run at 10:00 and 4:00. Two seams in the same spot will eventually leak. This was recommended to me by my local allis dealer when I rebuild my D17.
