I was mowing yards Saturday and when I went to a yard,my battery was dead, this happened all at once.I looked for a broken wire or one that came loose but found nothing.I have a wire that goes from my hot cable on my starter and is connected to the wires that go under the flywheel. It looks to me this is the only way it could charge my battery.Does anyone have any advice

Have you checked the battery voltage? If so, what happens to the battery voltage when you try to start it? Have you tried charging the battery? If the battery checks OK make sure everything is in neutral and out of gear and try jumpering the starter relay. Good luck!

Once you have your battery charged use a volt meter to see what your charging voltage is across the battery terminals on the engine. Should see about 14 volts. Hal
PS: You may need a wiring diagram to troubleshoot.

The engine can have a diode in the wire to turn it to dc voltage and the diode can go bad. or the coil under the flywheel can go bad.

Bigger engines will have a regulator as they charge more current and need to cut off when fully charged. its the size of a deck of cards.

Usually the battery cables corrode badly and cause loss of connections.

Sounds like you found it! Last fall we bought a Cub Cadet for $50, it wouldn't click the relay or anything, but I could turn the engine over with channellocks, so I took a chance on it. When we got home the wife got on the net and pretty soon she came out and said, the most common reason is the headlight wire is broken and shorted out and the fuse is blow. I had already started it by jumpering across the solenoid. We taped up the broken wire, put a new fuse in it, and have been mowing all summer at the cabin with it. Now she want's to sell it and get another Husqvarna like we have at home.
