Pilot bearing ?

I have 2 1996 Mazda B-3000 pickups with 5 speed manual transmissions. Neither truck had a clutch pilot bearing, or any evidence of a pilot bearing, when I took them apart. Both trucks had been apart before at a local garage. Is it possible that they aren't supposed to have a pilot bearing, or did somebody screw up? Thank you.

I've never been blessed with having one of those apart, so I went to the parts lookup at Rock Auto, and they show a needle-type pilot bearing, for what that's worth.

I have replaced quite a few of'em in those and Ranger's (Same truck)... Its the #1 cause as to why I had to R&R the clutch. The needles come apart and causes it to act like the clutch does not release momentarily... The needles jam up tween the end of the main shaft and locks it up...

Its gravy work even if you have to go into the trans...

What was the issue that got you were you are at... I have seen the needles slap gone turned to dust and no were to be found.. The bearing shell was there what was left of it...

The clutch went out of this truck March 2013. It appeared that the studs that hold the Y-pipe to the manifolds had never been touched. I didn't have the means to deal with them so I took it to a local garage. The engine got tired shortly after that (221,000 miles) and I acquired another vehicle so I took it off the road. I had another engine that had been rebuilt. My mechanic daughter is here to help me change engines. I didn't notice the missing pilot bearing until I was putting the flywheel and clutch on the fresh engine yesterday. I have seen cases where the needles are gone but the shell of the bearing is still there. There is NO trace of a bearing in this one.
