Just got a recorded phone call, said from IRS. Bad recording, skipping, hard to understand said my assets were going to be confiscated, press 1 to talk to somebody, press 9 to disconnect. I hung up, don't owe anybody a dime.

Listen for the accent; could be from anywhere.

IRS will not call you out of the blue - they just send you a letter that raises your blood pressure and increases your heart rate!

Sounds like a scam to me.
If you ever do get a real call you can always say you lost your records from a hard drive crash like Lois Learner.

My brother got that call, strung him along for about 10 minutes and when he wouldn't pay the guy said the police would be at his door in a few minutes, brother said he would take his chances on the cops and the guy hung up.

Neither the Infernal Revenue Service nor any other legitimate business will call before they send a letter stating the problem. Most states require it be delivered in writing before any legal action can be taken. Unfortunately, there are many who due to lack of understanding, or maybe fear of past discrepancies being discovered, will cave in and give out information because they think they are dealing with a legitimate business.

When ever I get those calls.I tell them they will have to talk to my CPA. Then give them the FBI office number in Dallas.

I got a call 2 years ago or so, woman says..."this is the cancer institute of such and such, you need to live up to your pledge" Right then I interupted.... If you ever call me again I will rip your throat out. She hung up on me, never called again.

You have to be sooooo rude to these people that they hang up on you. Calling up people at random and asking for money is panhandling to me.

I do not think the IRS would make calls to people anyway, certified letter or something looking official would seem like their procedure.

A scam. We got three calls from the "IRS" a few months ago. They even had a D.C. area code. Someone with an accent each time who said we or our attorney should contact them immediately. One even said if we didn't he couldn't help us, then "Goodbye and good luck."

Sucker born every minute. The scum bags play the numbers game. Send out enough solicitations and enough stupid people will respond and make it profitable. It that weren't so, there would not be the flood of spam and all of the sort inundating us these days.

As stated, IRS and other agencies that need to contact a person in a professional manner use the US Postal Service and don't ask for private information. This has been published time and time again through countless news reporting agencies.

If you suckers would quit responding, we non-suckers would quit getting annoyed with this crap.

I've gotten emails that said I was evicted from my house and to get our immediately. Lots of imagination with scammers.

I had some rag call the other day on my cell phone. I was in the tool shed working on the chopper. "Halo! I am calleng about your computer. We had found it is havink trouble and we would like to helping you with the probim". I answered, "This is the Sheriff's office. May I have the number you're dialing from?" DID he hang up quick....

Every time that I've had a problem with the IRS, they have never called me. They've always showed up with one guy knocking on the door, and two off to the sides or in the bushes where I couldn't see them until I stepped out and then they made themselves known to me. There was the one time where there was a guy up on my roof, one in the tree and one hiding in the horse troff though. Some jail time, a lawyer, a plea, pay a fine, few more days in jail and on my way until the next time. They also send letters, but they have never shown up in the mailbox until I get home from the slammer. Call me though? Not so far.

I first got wind of IRS phone scams this past tax season. Client was approached on the phone with a request for a lot of personal information. Called me and I told him to hang up any time they called. Then I contacted IRS and reported it. Of course there is nothing they can do. But, like others have mentioned, you should be aware that the IRS does not make cold calls on collections. Revenue agents DO IN FACT call people on the phone regarding collection matters. However, by the time you have been assigned to a revenue agent you will have been thru a rigid postal collection procedure and will be expecting the call.

Wasn't anything remotely professional about this call, I answered the phone and a recording started. It would play for about 15 seconds and stop and restart over and over, woman wasn't very fluent either but I read all the time on here about all the scams going on and this is my first although a couple months ago I had a caller warn me that my computer was infected and they'd be happy to fix it. Oh I know that I'm supposed to pay my taxes and pay them on time, but I have a theory. If the government can be approaching 18 trillion dollars in debt, which it is because they don't pay their bills, then I don't have to pay mine either. So far my theory isn't working so well. On the bright side, they have an excellent computer here in the day room of the jail with lightning fast interent so I can visit YT. Downside is that when I get out, I'm going to have to go back home where I only have dialup that really slows things down.

(quoted from post at 14:23:25 09/26/14) Just got a recorded phone call, said from IRS. Bad recording, skipping, hard to understand said my assets were going to be confiscated, press 1 to talk to somebody, press 9 to disconnect. I hung up, don't owe anybody a dime.

I have caller ID and any number I don't recognize or out of area gets screened....it eliminates all that crap because they don't want to be recorded.
