white 2-150 pto

have a white 2 150 and switched pto shaft from 1000 to 540 and when I shift the "plunger" at the bottom right nothing seams to happen, ex pto doesn't turn when on. What connects the "Plunger" to the shift fork inside? is this a common problem?

You hanen"t moved the shifter far enough turn the shaft move
the shifter till it locks up.

Turned the shaft all day and no lock up moving the shifter and quit when I darn near pulled it out.
