Metal alert 2 on NH harvester, trouble

The metal alert on my harvester screams at me ,and won't let the feed rolls and gathering chains go in the "forward" position. It still screams the alarm, in the "reverse"position, but every thing turns as it should. The harvester is empty. It has just sat in the shed since last year , so there is no metal to detect. I cleaned the contacts etc, So what should I look for next? Can I delete the metal alert,if so How?And if I just cut the wires off, will it let the head feed in to the cutter? Bruce

No clue, but I am betting someone chewed wires and they are grounded out. Get out your ohm meter and start at the sensors, checking the resistance in the wires (I just pierce the outer coating with the sharp pointed leads). It may be worth it to just run new wires to those sensors as I am willing to bet they chewed it somewhere inside the frame and you won't be able to get to it

You can delete the metal alert. I did once but I don't remember what I had to do seems like I had to switch some wires around. I'm sure it told in the manual, but I haven't been around the chopper in a while.I know I had to get a new electrical board to fix mine.

It's been disabled on our 892 by the previous owners. I know the seleniod that pulls/pushes the dog on the drive sprocket is removed and some other stuff. Not sure what was all done to it.

When we had that problem it wasn't anything magical or electrical , it was mechanical. Can't explain exactly what, but it was a worn out piece that pulls it in or out of gear. What model is the harvester?
