OT--Termite Bond

I have had a termite bond on my home for over 10 years. I am pleased with the regular servicing of the home inspection Sentricon stations.
Problem is the annual renewal cost of over $400.00 seems really high to me.
The home has a partial basement and combined s.f. is about 3,100.
I have called them for a discount and they offered a $20.00 a year discount!!!!
I have checked with a couple of other companies and was told that they would have to do a complete home inspection and treatment---like $800.00 and then decide on the annual renewal cost. They do not take over an existing contract. Renewal would probably be close to what I have!
Looks like a "conspiracy" to me!!

$325 here for Terminix. I expect that the large part of cost is the repair/replacement damage-should-it-occur guarantee. Big question is, would they really pay or weasel out with pre-existing claims, etc., etc. I definitely feel like I'm gambling!

Yeah---Practically ALL warranties are written to protect the issuing company!
Many ways they can get out of paying!
I just feel that most people want an existing termite bond when purchasing a home. But it's up to them if they keep the bond, which I did when I bought this home.
A friend advised me to just purchase the bate stations from Lowes and check them regularly for a fraction of contract cost.

If you change companies now, you've just handed the new company a gold-plated excuse to get out of paying- the damage was pre-existing. Stay with who you have, because after 10 years, they no longer have that loophole available to them.

I live north of the Mason Dixon line, So, I do not have a termite problem. Nor have I seen what termites can do.....I have heard it is a real bad.
I wonder what they did in the old days for termites before a wide range of poisons and chemicals were available.

Go to doityourselfpestcontrol.com and see what they sell for termites and save a buck or 2.

Realizing what the EPA has done, and is still doing with pesticides, we might have to find out and go back to the way they did it!

Termites are not limited to south of the Mason Dixon line. I live East central Iowa and we have a big termite issue.

I pay about $550/year for my annual inspection on 7
properties which is required it maintains my
contract. That includes fall garages and out
buildings too.

I live in Ontario Canada
and Guelph Ont CAN has had a termite problem going on 20 plus yrs now
Termites just don't live in nice sunny warm areas south of the mason dixon line

I do not know of anyone in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana that has a Termite issue. I have always thought that termites were a southern bug. The frost I was told kills them off.

believe that you are correct for the type (subterranean) that we have down here, but there are others that live above ground all the time. Thankfully, we haven't seen much of those as of now, but they have been imported (unintentionally) from other parts of the world.
