Has any one ever seen a tire like this?

I was demoing an OLD machine shed for a neighbor this summer
and found this tire. I'm not really sure if it is an implement tire or a
road tire, Mike

Fleet carrier should tell you it is a road tire and the size could have been for a tone and half or 2 ton straight job truck or a semi tractor. Don't see them much any more as pre war II. And U S Royal used to be a major tire maker bigger than Goodyear or Firestone.

Ive seen pictures of similar tires, but it almost looks like it was a recap tire for some reason.

Definately a re-tread. Looks like it could be a directional tread for in and out of the field type work.

Looks like it has been recapped. Looks like a low quality job probably for use on a implement like a manure spreader or lift wheel on a plow.

In Canada, I think the brand was called Dominion Royal ...... I remember putting a set of Dominion Royal Masters (used) on a '51 Chrysler I was driving in the mid-60's. They were an expensive brand then and were a big improvement on the el-cheapo Atlas tires that I retired at the time.

Sure is a poor design, would not have any traction in mud or deep water.

It would trap the soft stuff in the depressions, not move the soft stuff out of the way as a real tread should do.

We had a small tire store here called OK rubber welders. He did work like that. The tread was in a long strip and was applied with heat. The ends were tapered and overlapped on big tires, small were in a ring and slipped over the outside of the tire after the old tread was shaved off on a lathe like device. Farmers and log truck drivers used him a lot. They were not a good high speed retread. He even did big tractor tires, well big for then, I have seen 14.9x38s that were done. He retired in the mid 80's. Les Schwab tires used to do them in the 80's, I had a set of 18.4x38s done. A lot of old truck tires were made into implement tires. They shipped them to Redmond Oregon, don't know if they still do or not....James

Yep, got an old trailer with a tire that has tread pattern like that. I will get a pic today and post tonight.

Yup. US Royal and Dunlop were big players in those days. We used to snicker about all of the State Trooper cars being equiped with Dunlops because Gov. Nelson Rockefeller and his family owned Dunlop. The troopers didn't like them at all! They had a reputation for high speed blowouts at the time.
