Fall Has Arrived

Just starting to see a few leaves turn here.

Had the best summer in recent memory: only a few excessively hot days, rain when we needed it, very little fog. Even bug season was mercifully short.

Murphy being the sort of fellow that he is, I suspect we'll pay for that this winter...

Had a long, cold, relentless winter here, which wouldn't give up. Almost all spring work was shoved back to the last week of May, and well into June. Then with the turning of the calendar to Aug., rain and cold returned. Two months just isn't enough.

The whole year was pushed back, with very small
window's to work.. Corn doesn't look like all of
it will make it. Hay is short supply.. Still have
20+ acre's of 1st crop standing that will be
hogged down. Oats were short & need the straw
more than the oats. Fields are too wet, new hay
seed fields are somewhat rutted. It's a wonder
there wasn't a frost this morning in NW. Pa.
Apples are falling by the groves & my yard is
full of fallen leaves. But!! My wood it all cut.

It hasn't rain in ne MD for several months. It's been very dry, but rain is coming up the east coast. I plowed part of my garden and it came up in hard clods. The coming rain will soak in easily. I had 44°F this morning. Tomatoes are about over except for the Chadwick cherry. Hal

Colder summer here in northern NY but it looks like a bumper corn crop. Had a light frost last week that did not bother the corn much [corn was already turning because of age] but the soybeans took a hit. They are still green but drooping.

Made a lot of dry hay between rain showers and the hay looks good. Put some round bales of second cutting in the shed and they were made without getting wet.

Just plowed about 10 acres and was surprised at how dry the ground really is. As mentioned by others Murphy will be awaking soon and then watch out. GOOD LUCK TO ALL of you farmers and farmers at heart.

We had maybe a week or so of running the A/C here in Michigan. Bugs were bad for 2 weeks or so. Then the natural predators seemed to take over, lots of dragon flies. It's been very cool and wet here, the lake levels are back up. The crops here look great, the locals are worried about storage.
