Ear Protection Required!

Needed the big tractor for other duties, so grabbed this guy to tug the planter.

Stopped after one round to go get the ear plugs; forgot how noisey those things are while under a load! :>)

My 4 cylinder diesels always seemed louder than the 6 cylinders (non-turbo). My JD-2630 has a ROPS canopy and it really reverberated. I glued some 5/8 neoprene foam sheet insulation (like used on air handlers) under the roof and also wear ear plugs. Must protect my highly developed selective hearing for conversing with SWMBO . . . . lol

Back in the day, ear protectors were standard operating procedure.

Suckers are just plain loud! But, they sure get 'er done.

Ran that exact tractor on a NH 411 discbine one summer. Really, really had to wear earplugs. Screaming diesel in front and whiny discbine behind. Best summer ever, though.

About 15 years ago, a hearing specialist made a convincing speech that my hearing would never be better than it was right then.

He convinced me. From then on, anything noisy, tractor, chain saw, weedeater, even power tools, I wear ear plugs.

When i was a young lad just out of high school i worked for a custom operator who had a brand new 1256 with no cab. Boy was i a proud and happy camper driving that huge new tractor but my ears rang like crazy when i came in at night. I to will take my 86 series cab over that any day. Jim

Coupla things I wish I'd started using as a lad- ear protection and a brimmed hat. Am reminded of that every time I say "Huh?", and every time my dermatologist chops me up a little more (most recently, 3 weeks ago).

We're too soon old and too late schmart.

I used to have a set of ear muffs hanging on my tool box. About the only time I used them was when standing with head inside of duals using an air wrench to take bolts out. Most of the time I need to know the various sounds something is making when I am working on it. Running them full power on a dyno, making adjustments you want to hear what is taking place. No, I don't hear very well.
