Hoping to finish hay tomorrow..

Every time I've been on the hay field all the way back till last year I've had breakdowns. This is starting to get old and make me wonder why I do it. I cut about 15 acres on Wednesday, and of course it's been cool and dense morning fog everyday. Didn't see the sun till almost noon yesterday, little better today but not much. So of course I tedded yesterday evening after work and went today after work to ted again. This happened, only good part was I was almost finished so hopefully it won't hurt to bad.

I've got the rake ready to go for in the morning, just as soon as the dew burns off. And the baler is greased and hopefully fixed from eating the plunger bearings earlier this year. Also adjusted the twine fingers to where they should be. Fingers crossed for a trouble free day tomorrow(and some dry hay, it still was a little damp this afternoon), but I'll be honest, at this point I'm not very hopeful.

It's been a tough year for making dry hay. We baled 5 acres
tonight. A little tough yet, but the rain is coming. Luckily we
were able to spread it out in the barn. About 8 acres left to cut
of 2nd crop. Who knows how that will go . Good luck!!!

Something I have learned, and I am not saying you do not know this...

Get a manual for every piece you own. Follow all the recommendations for lubrication and operation. Do not push old equipment too fast or too hard. Like people, they get more delicate with age. Get used to the idea that a breakdown is inevitable almost every time you go out. In hay there is a tractor, mower, rake, possible tedder although I don't use one, baler, elevator. If it is all older and well used then you are going to see a repair a day. After a while, you will be able to patch it together in a few minutes and move on down the field. Hang in there!

Finished mine yesterday, unloaded the last wagon
this afternoon. There is another ten acres of
really short second and third cut, but the
neighbor's cattle can cut that a lot better than I
can.
