Plow Day - PICS

Yesterday's neighborhood plow day. It was so much fun and what fantastic weather! Could not
have been a better day. I only plowed one round near the end… was too busy taking photos with
that blue, blue sky.

So awesome of the land owner and his sons to host this event. This is the 3rd year. (I'll post pics of other brands plowing at another time).

A "group pose"... but couldn't fit them all in. I think there must have been about 20 tractors and plows there, all total.

A close-up of our Regular.

Husband is opening the fuel line... getting “ready to rumble” now.

Long shot of the hay field. Every view was like a painting yesterday.

Husband is plowing... rider is a guy who was a neighbor kid to my husband in their childhood.

We had a fair bit of rain last week... so it was still a little bit sticky as you can see by our tractor wheels. We were really glad they "let the show go on" anyway.

Looks like y'all had a good time.

A lot of green and red tractors helping out.

Your Regular was probably the "senior" tractor of the group.

Thanks for sharing your photos with us.

Great stuff. Looks like the plow scoured pretty well- probably did a good job plowing.

Not long before Dad died at 85 about ten years ago, I took him to a horse plowing day. He always loved draft horses, had used them a lot back in the day, and bought, repaired, and sold harness as his "retirement project". I remember him plowing our garden with "Tom and Jerry" when I was about 4, in 1952.

We arrived a little late, and our vantage point wasn't all that good. Organizer of the event must have recognized him (Dad was active in the draft horse group "Hames and Tugs"). Came over and said "I think I can find you a little better spot." Dad was in a wheelchair, and I just pushed him to wherever it was we were going. He led us to the middle of the action, in front of the pink tape that everyone else was behind. He told the folks behind the tape, "Grand Marshal. He gets the good seat" He told Dad "Now don't go wheeling out to where they're plowing, unless someone needs some help, of course."

Sure enough, at one point some young guy was having trouble, and the older guy he was talking too waved over at us. I wheeled Dad out, and he told the guy "You're rigged up OK, but the horse on this side is a little shorter than the other one, so you may be a little long in [whatever strap it was] on this side. Where is it set on the other side? [guy answers] "That's what I thought. Take this side up about 3 notches, let the other side out about 2, and see how that works." Guy did the adjustments, took another turn, looked over at Dad with a big smile and a thumbs-up.

Dad had a great time as the "elder statesman", and I was so glad that the elderly weren't just ignored as being out of touch. Dad was still sharp, and really did help some of the younger folks. And they were almost reverent, to an "old guy" who had "forgot more than they'll ever know".

Wish you guys would bring all those plows out here to the prairie. Still have 47 acres that need to be tipped and I'm busy drillin' wheat.

Allan

Wish I could have been there to see and hear the Regular. I would have enjoyed just standing there watching the plowing. I'm not much interested in pulling a plow anymore but it's fun to watch others having fun blowing the carbon out. Jim

donjr,

Well... maybe next year. We had no kids there this time to snap a pic - and husband rides on the draw bar when I plow so I don't maim anybody or wreck any tractors!

fixerupper,

There were quite a few spectators too. They pulled
in a hay rack for folks to sit on. Plow day seems
to get a little larger each year.

Thanks, Mike. This plow gets used each year so it stays pretty good.

That's just a great story about your Dad! Thanks for sharing it.

Yes, we sure had fun!

It's a pretty diverse tractor community: Farmalls, John Deeres, Olivers, Allis and some Minnie Mo's around this area.

FLOLDFORD,

It did great. My husband said he was really pleased. I did a couple video clips... so maybe someday I'll learn to do youtube.

Looks like a beautiful day!! I'm planning to attend a plowing bee up here this coming Saturday. Of course that's if the weather holds and I get my carb parts in time to get my carb rebuilt and back on my A.

Nice pictures! The Regular looks good in it's original paint. Always fun to plow with a bunch of people and old tractors. Thanks for posting

Great pictures. Looks like everyone had a good time. I love to attend plow days and work the old iron. Next year I'll try out my JD 60 with the wide front. I never plowed with a wide front tractor.

Great pictures, love them. I got my F-20 a year ago, just need to find a 2 or 3 bottom plow for it to pull. The F-20 was dads big plow tractor in 1957

DeltaRed,

Thanks.

Hoping next year our kids go with us so one can run the camera. No more Regular until next year... when we got home Sunday, my husband winterized it.

Cool and wet is not unusual here either, this time of year. Seems like it often gets that way prior to harvest.

Thanks.

Hope you get your plow. Go with a two bottom... I'm pretty sure both the F20 and the Regular are rated for 2-14's.

Seems like the guys pulling too much plow spent a lot of time stuck at plow days.

omahagreg,

Thanks.

LOL. Sure did pack on a good layer...even on the land side wheel. Not as bad as the furrow side - but still got a good layer of dirt too.

JD John,

Thanks.

We're already looking forward to next year! Then our rusty plow will be ready to use.
