Early Frost

Just wondering if any of you fellows to the North got burnt with the frost Saturday morning? It was 36 here in Central KS, but I heard NW of here 80 miles it got down to 26F.
Our beans are a little too green for that kind of cold. Looks like we might have escaped, but I'm sure it took it's toll on some of you to the North. Hope not! Bob

I can't verify, but the grass sure looked white yesterday morning as I headed north at 4:30. I'm in SW Michigan, Allegan County.

Dew looks white in the AM sun. I really doubt you saw any frost as far south as Allegan. Depending on how far north you went...well...maybe, but let's hope not. Checked the corn yesterday. Only just starting to dent and it is staying pretty cold. Sure would like to see a couple weeks of warmer weather. Probably going to try to take off the last of the hay tomorrow unless the weather idgits change the forecast again.

Around here, E SD, lots of beans and corn in low areas got frozen. Corn here was dented a couple weeks ago but would have been nice to hold off a while. Silage cutting is in progress here.

North of me about 75 miles they got hit hard, 23 degrees, sounds like everything that was green has turned white. Lots of corn, soybeans and even some wheat that's not gonna see the combine just the disk.

I think the bemidji area got hit hard the same night too.

In my part of northwest Iowa, about 50 miles south of Minnesota we had a little nip on the top leaves of the maturing crop but the replant beans in the low spots were hurt very little. The beans that were turning were hurried along on top but the lower leaves are still green or yellow, depending on what stage of maturity they are in. The top leaves of the corn are browned but down in the row there is very little damage. This afternoon i drove by a field of tall corn with a few weeds that were sticking above the corn and the weeds, were wilted above the tassles but weren't hurt below the tassles .

Technically my thermometer showed 33 degrees.

You can see the frost line around the hills, would be like islands on my rolling hills where the corn is still green, and the side hills and bottoms are frosted.

I think that will just make harvest harder, everything is going to get ripe at different times, how do you set the combine? Beans you can follow around a bit, but corn....

Kinda glad I just haul to the elevator, this will be a tough year to store a crop and keep it in condition.
