Hi,I have a Cat D4 that I would like to get some info on. I only have part of the serial number which is 6U889 and then I think the next number is an 8. Apparently there are more numbers but I can"t tell what they are. I believe it is a 1956 or very close to that year. I recently had some work done to the pony engine and it is running like a champ now and I would like to keep it that way. I am looking for operating manuals and what type of fluids are used. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

the 1953 D4 serial #'s ran from 6U8256 to 9698----I use straight 30w diesel oil in the engine and sae90w gear oil in the transmission and final drives.
00 grade grease in the button head grease fittings and aw 46 hydraulic oil in the hydraulic system
I found all my manuals on ebay.

Wow!! Thank you so much! I am trying to find as much info as I can. I recently had the tractor worked on and it runs like a champ now. I started it yesterday and the pony engine started on the first pull!
That sound takes me back to when I was 5 years old and it is still a thrill to this day.

thank you

I liked the sound of our D4 engine when it was working, but our HD7 road better and steered better than the D4. Even liked the sound of that 3-71 in the HD7 after I got used to it.

Or could no longer hear it! LOL

Sure glad I never drove really loud tractors when I spent a lot of time on them. I didn't have enough sense to wear a brimmed hat, so am continually having carcinomas cut off my face and head. If I been on a Detroit powered tractor, I probably wouldn't have had enough sense to wear earplugs, and would be even more deaf than I am as it is.
