JD 40 leak in lift arms shaft

Friend has a JD 40 that has a leak at the end of the horizontal shaft that the lift arms attach to. He heard that there is some type of O-ring that you can put in to stop the leak.
Any advice/helpful hints will be appreciated.
Thanks

I have a 40W which leaks on the left side of the rockshaft. When I park it, I pull onto a 4x4 under the left rear wheel. Slows down how often I have to add fluid.

Checked the Model 40 Series parts catalog and there are two oil seals displayed depending on the tractor's designation.

M2107T for the [b:654c4848f0]S[/b:654c4848f0] and [b:654c4848f0]U[/b:654c4848f0].

M2108T for the [b:654c4848f0]H[/b:654c4848f0], [b:654c4848f0]T[/b:654c4848f0], [b:654c4848f0]V[/b:654c4848f0], and [b:654c4848f0]W[/b:654c4848f0].

Hope this helps.

Never seen one that didn't leak if the oil level was full.
From the 40 until mid 30 series production. The rockshaft turned direct on the cast iron housing. Eventually the housing wears out of round .no amount of o'rings and gaskets will seal a wobbling gap.
All earlier housings can be updated . The old housings can be machined and fitted with the same mid 30 series and later bronze bushing and updated seals.

I have fixed several. Some I have found an o ring that fit and on one, I used seals for a 1010. They were basicly the same system only they used a modern type seal. It did work.
