Oats mystery solved.

Apparently, per the elevator, a certain farmer grew a LOT of oats this year. The elevator buys them but has limited storage for oats. They were only able to take a portion of the one fellas crop and then turned others down. Refused to buy them. I know it would have made MY day if I was one of those fellas.

So that is the source of the rumor around here that oats can't be sold.

The place where I buy my seed oats ran out of certified seed this spring before I got there. He sold me bin run that hadn't even been cleaned and soaked me $12 a bushel for them. They had so much straw in them I could have baled them. Somebody else was telling me he charged that much for them for feed too. If he can buy them for $3.50 and sell them for that,he'd better be grabbing all he can get even if he has to put up new storage for them.
I kept a load of good clean ones separate for next year when I cut this year. Danged if I'll pay that for half a load of straw next year.

My supplier for seeds ran short of corn, beans and wheat. Had pallets of bagged oats he didn't know what to do with.

They don't around here anymore either. I remember dad selling oats at nearly $3.00 bu back in the 1980s lol.

Oats make nice calf feed. I know a guy that would buy them. But he doesn't have any storage either. I guess they could be piled on the ground.
