Well, it's the 8th of Sept. and no frost. Old wives tail, if we don't get frost tonight, we will be frost free the rest of the month. It is 62F here at 9:20pm.
Wasn't that many years back that killing frosts ocured around the end of Aug. around here. Now we seam to make it to the end of Sept. before killing frost. I have noticed the changes in the seasonal events during the last 10 years. How about you?

Seems like fall comes later and so does spring. Maybe this global warming is just a calendar shift. Great moon pics.

My dad always said that too. If we get past the full moon without frost it usually was good until the next full moon.

Never heard that one. Seems if its an old wives tale then there were late frosts back when there were old wives lol. Keep us posted.

Here in the Catskills it seems to be the same, one year my garden froze August 21. I remember snow flurries in June. My grandfather said one year the farm down the road in the valley had frost every month, his favorite weather statement was "around here we only have three seasons; winter, July and August". There are pictures from 1914 blizzard of local train stuck and buried and tring to clear the tracks with train snowblower and shovels, we don"t get as much snow as we used too and it melts more often during the winter

I was fortunate enough to be out in an open field, when I noticed the full moon just above the eastern horizon. Then I turned and saw the sun just above the western horizon. I don't think I've ever been in the right place at the right time before to witness that.

Venus is now up in the morning, and Mercury would be past by then, I think. It could have been Uranus, Im not sure since it was cloudy here last night. Might have been just another star.

We've had frost as early as late August here over the years, also. Last ten years or so we've been gettiong through to late Sept or later. Next week they are calling for low 40's.

Usually the frosts follow the full moon in early fall, so I think we'll be okay for 3 weeks now.

Having opened my mouth and said that, now you just watch. It will probably get down to about 20 degress next week...........................

Hi SMS, my grandfather talked about the summer of 1908, that there was snow every month but July and August. Today we know why, see
http://www.psi.edu/epo/siberia/siberia.html

It was the dust spewed into the atmosphere from the explosion from the meteorite crash in Siberia that blocked the sun light and caused cooler temperatures in most of the northern hemisphere.
