Friends and family made their annual trip to our farm this weekend and cut and split and stored our winters wood. About 18 cord that will last another cold winter, I HOPE.
It always surprises me as to how much easier a hard job can be when you have several friendly and willing helpers. Lots of laughing and joking along with good food and it is more like a party than a work detail.

We still have enough wood left from last year to go another winter but it is always better to be prepared for whatever mother nature throws at us.

Sounds like everyone had a fun time!

Just wondering what part of the country you are from, and what kind of wood you are using.

Northern NY state, near the border with Canada.
Most of my wood was ash with a few cherry and beech logs. Pretty well seasoned since it has been stacked here since last fall.

ucky you!
I get to do that job all by my lonesome.

2 of my kids came last fall and we had 3 saws going, and grandma and a couple of their kids loading trucks. It was fun, but that stuff turns into work for me a lot earlier in the day than it used to.

Luckey You, I have to do it myself, Had to bring in the tree people , as I had some trees to close to the buildings and needed the bucket truck. Best part I don't have to go up to the bush to cut. Have the splitter mounted on the old Nuffield, and split and throw the wood into the bucket of the Leland to carry it to the woodshead
. Still I am 6 months behind, snow was to deep last winter ..

You had a really, really productive weekend. This is my 24x12' wood shed, and anyway I do the math, it only holds 17.5 cord piled into the rafters. How do you measure your cord of wood? my cords equal 128 cu,ft, (4'x4'x8'. The average tri axle log truck filled with firewood logs delivers about 7 cord of wood when blocked, split and stacked. You had a very productive day.
I still have to fill this center bay which will take another 2.4 cord to fill it. Working alone, it will take me 3 days to fell, block, split, load, and unload/stack the wood to fill it.

Sounds like a good constructive social get together. It's better than sitting around watching the tube by a long shot. There is something relaxing about the woods.
