1935 B Almost Fixed!

Well, that unstyled 35 B that I brought home the other day is going to be fixed today!!! We started looking around inside the engine trying to figure out why someone dropped the oil pump off of it, but the only thing we could find was a separated line? Where the pickup line goes from the pump to the fitting inside the engine, the actually fitting on the line just slid off of the line itself? Going to clean it up and re-solder it today!

Got a brand new oil filter coming from NAPA, and I was able to rob and oil filter housing cap from the parts G, so for now, all appears to be good! Any idea as to what oil I should put in the crankcase? Bryce

Engine was built in the time period of STRAIGHT weights. The great thing today is ROTELLO 15-40, but unless that tractor has been either torn down or has had the CRANK CASE completely WASHED --------------- 30 weight again today, leaving the CRUD laying where it is. Enjoy your tractor as it was created.

If the oil pump is out check and make sure oil pump drive coupler is in place when you re install oil pump (looks like piece of square tube)it connects pump to pump drive

My guess is the drive coupler was broken and that is why the pump was dropped. If you get three or four drops of water in the oil pump and try to turn it over in the winter the coupler is the first line of defense. New ones from JD are about $50. Don't ask how I know this LOL. Our host here and Steiner has them much cheaper.

It has the little square drive thing on it still, it was just sitting on top of the pump shaft. I slid it off and took it in the shop where it will be safe!

Looks like a guy could make one out of two pieces of angle iron... But then again, I am not all that creative, and have never welded before! Bryce

Bryce, it not my business which way you go but if you don't make sure the tank, bowl, gas lines and carb. seat is clean and working like it should it won't be long before it will fill up the crankcase with gas and then you have to change oil and filter again so pay attention to that. Also the sq. drive can be brazed if it shears off because that's what it's supposed to do if it freeze's. Good luck with the projects and let us hear what is happening along the way.
