Foam in front tractor tires.

I did not want to hijack the tire slime post below but I have a Ford 8n I recently purchased that has some kind of dense foam fill (set up solid) in the front tires (19inch) that has totally filled them and is quite heavy, approximately 70 pounds each. Does any one have any idea what it would be. Too bad the tires are shot would be perfect for bush hogging in the woods. I guess I would have to cut them off somehow to get them off the rims. Never seen or heard of that before.

That is what is called tire foam, there is nothing foam about it. The tire store down town cuts them off with a sawzall, with the teeth ground off.

I got hold of a set of 23x10.5x12 garden tractor tires like that about three months ago. MAN are they heavy. Sawzall is the tool of choice if you can even get them off. MEK is the only thing that will touch the stuff. You can shoot the tire full of nails and it will just look at you. Go buy new rims for the time it will take you.

When I worked in the Mines we used to fill our
underground Loaders & End-Dumps tires with tire
foam. We'd run those tires until the rubber was
worn off & the foam was showing. When we changed
out a tire, the old tire & rim were thrown away
and a new foam filled tire & rim were put on. It's
almost impossible to save the rim, you'd have to
cut the tire off & as much foam as possible & then
BURN the rest of the foam off of the rim - which
takes the temper out of the rim & makes it
unusable.

Yeh, we tried to save the rims ($12,000. each), it
just wasn't cost effective.

When they took the railroad out the clearing crew had a
backhoe with foam filled tires guy drivin in town decide to
drop it in road gear i think it hit the ground 3 times in a
block he decided aganst road gear after that

I will probably try to cut them off but will not waste a lot of time on them. I was just curious what type of foam was in them, seems like it would be a good way to get a little weight on the front also.
