International 4000 swather

I have an international 4000 swather that keeps having a belt slip. The belt that drives my pitman arm will occasionally slip and stop driving my Sickles completely. The belt is pretty worn and has some knotches in it. The tension is good on it and I put dressing on the pully's. Also my knife drive case has an adequate amount of gear oil in it. Could it simply be my belt is so worn it won't stay in the groove of the pully or are my Sickles to dull that even the slightest patch of thickly, stalky grass will stop it? Thanks.

when you say the belt has notches in it do you mean notches burnt into the sides because it stopped turning and the drive pulley wore notches into it?
sounds like time for a new belt. if you think it looks worn it will be.

Notches along the side from burning and chucks of rubber missing from the belt due to wear. I was hoping to finish out the hay season and replace it next spring. It looks like a pain in the butt to put a new belt on.
