D7G putting transmission oil in the engine

Working on a D7G dozer. Operated said that the transmission was shifting funny. He changed the oil and filter. Did not clean the torque converter screen or drain it. Refilled ran the tractor for three hours and transmission was overheating. I went down and found he filled it with 10w hydraulic oil. I drained the Trans only and refilled with 30w. Tractor Ran 2 Hours And Started Pouring Oil Out Of The engine. Checked and it was about 12 gallons too full and the transmission was low. I replaced the scavenger pump per another mechanics recommendation. It did not help. Could it leak 2 gallons an hour through the rear main? Could it be something else? Ideas?
Thanks

Ran them old 7Gs thirty years ago,If I remember correctly there is a oil seal between the tranny and engine that lets go, ran one that would put tranng oil in engine one day then the next day the engine oil would get into the tranny, cant remember how big of a job it was to repair it, but I believe it wasnt that big of a job. I could ask a Cat Mechanic friend of mine next time I see him and let you know..
