OT-Metal Roof Coating

Going along with the other metal roof question also in Michigan.
I have a very old barn with old school corrigated steel roof.
Does the thick roof coatings do any good?
Is it worth the expense.
The 5 gal. buckets are about $90 at the box stores.
Better to do it yourself or have a pro come in and get it done.

Thanks,
Dell

i just had an old corn crib roof painted. it was corrogated steel that was pretty rusty. had a painter come out and spray a silver coating on it. was a type of petroleum/ashphalt type coating, on the thick side. very steep gambrell roof with a coupola. ran about 2300. took a day to do it. way better than me trying to get up there.

Depends on how well you like to climb and if you have the time.

I have a 50x60x45 high hip roof barn here with the same corrugated tin roofing put on in 1957. It has been painted 3 times in the last 35 years and looks like new.

Last paint job 4 years ago cost $1600 and took 35 gallons of paint. Climbing is not for me. I hire it done.

I painted a rusty round corn crib I have. I done it twice now. The first time about 15 years ago and the second time a couple of years ago. I used TSC aluminum grain bin paint with an electric spray gun.

On the down side I looked like the tin man when I was done.

There use to be a crew from down south that would come to Mi. in our area every year and paint barns, sheds or what have you. They would go door to door and ask when they seen the need for paint on a farm. They would stand on the peak of our big barn and spray the whole roof. Any equipment or anything parked within a quarter mile would get paint on it too.
