Caution: There back at it again. (pick ups beware).

I had a friend who is in to law enforcement just got done telling me to lock your tail gate. There back on to this they are stealing tail gates off of trucks. He claims that they sell the ones that are in good shape. The one that are dented and look bad they sell them as scrap. It does not matter what pick up you drive if they can steal your tail gate they will. He has also warn me about looking up my spare tire on my pick up truck. He claims they will even steal that to. Just thought I would let you know Brent

We just talked to an old friend at a sale this weekend...

He said he's been scrapping some stuff because people are stealing iron to sell. Thieves also stole radiator cores out of his combines. And he must have interrupted them one night because he found two gas containers out in his yard one morning.

I don't think anything is safe, anywhere... anymore.

A couple years ago I stopped at a motel along I-80 in Nebraska with my gooseneck and pickup at 2 in the morning. Came out at 6 and the spare for the trailer was missing from the neck of the trailer. Bolted on with 1/2" bolts and double nutted, still took it.

Also remember that many new pickup tailgates have a $500 back up camera built into them, so replacing the whole works would be very expensive.

I wonder if you could replace the camera for $500?

With a late-model new tailgate costing 5 to 8 hundred with hardware, and another few hundred at the body and paint shop, a $500 factory tailgate camera to tuck inside it almost sounds like a bargain!

Found that a hose clamp will tighten up around the right-hand circular lift-in-lift-out connector, and prevent the tailgate from just simply lifting out. Might caause thieves to go on to the next guy.

A few years ago, someone stole the tailgate for my tan Ford pickup. It had two small dents on the inside that I'd made loading a round bale. I was driving down the street and noticed a shiny white Ford pickup in front of a tavern, same vintage, sporting my tailgate, freshly painted. Needless to say - I got my tailgate back, and I left it painted white to rub the thief's nose in it. Everyone asked why my tailgate was white. And I told them, names and dates included. . .
Small town - news travels fast.

Guess I better start pulling keys out of my pickups. Wife tells me to, put it is a pain. Mine are a long ways from being new.

one of the malls in el Paso tx, it will last about 5 minutes , you'd think they would have enough cars and trucks by now, but they dont

Haven't heard of that around here. My truck sits in the garage 99% of the time and is never parked very long when I do take it out of the garage. Plus I have a fiberglass bed cover that I can lock, but that isn't really that much of a deterant.

The only thing I've ever had trouble with it gas. Years back I was hired to get six tractors running for an auction. I filled up the truck and three cans with fuel ,had six batteries and tools in the back of my truck over night. In the morning I headed out to the farm. The farm was 12 miles out in no mans country. Just as I pulled into the drive, I looked down and noticed my gas gauge was on E.

Someone drained the tank during the night. They were not smart enough to look in the back. My gas cans were still full and my six batteries were untouched!

That's when you start running random night patrols. A sawed off pee-vee handle would be a nice accessory for such evening jaunts..................

A Pee Vee handle might be good, but if you sneak up on someone up to no good, one shot in the air from a 12ga will literally scare the poo right out of them. I did that once and now have a small carry tool box they left behind running away...

Damn thieves, my daughter was up in Milwaukee Wi. Monday in broad day light to an art show. Came out to find the left rear window busted out of her 4 month old car, zipped up bag of clothes with a Mac laptop gone, 900 bucks damage to the car and it don't look like the insurance is too eager to cover the laptop. I don't know why the girl couldn't carry a bag of rattle snakes.

That's about what I said about the Mercury Lynx we had. Said I could leave it idle in front of a convenience store with a full tank of gas and nobody would take it!
