Summer shows

Now that the summer show season is just about wrapped up I was wondering what everybody's take was in terms of attendance of exhibitors and spectators. The younger neighbor and I were talking this afternoon and the lament is there that we do not have the money to participate in showy exhibits as much as we would like to do. We are both kind of worried that when less common pieces get affordable the shows will be a thing of the past.

The shows I have personally been to this summer have had light turn outs. I think that the last one was weather related as it was threating rain but actually only sprinkled for a few minutes and then a great day.

What I am noticing is that the older fellows are thinning out in a hurry. I don't know if it is just their age or if it is the cost of everything.

At some shows there are younger people coming on but I think there are more older guys dropping out than young ones starting. That is just my "read" on it.

Cost is definitely an issue from what I see. A friend and I have been scoping out implements as they run cheaper than tractors for the most part. Hence my recent inquiry into the Deere 237 corn pickers. The friend has a New Gen tractor he does not mind tying up into a picker tractor for shows but even there the tractor is not going to get an Expo-quality paint or restoration treatment.
People want to throw their hands in the air even if they can find a several hundred dollar Farmall H that needs a lot of TLC as that TLC will put the total cost of such a project over 3,000 dollars typically.
