Ford 640 carb problem and serial clarification

Hi. Found my carb dripping (2 x sec) suddenly, from the choke and underside. Pulled the air intake hose and a cup of gas washed out. Any ideas? Was running hesitantly before, thought I was about out of gas, but wasnt.

ALSO! my serial is 640 then 1244 but then a small subscript like a broken 7, then 4, then a half diamond as you read across. Any ideas? 1,244,740c or 124,474 c or...?

Probably have a float that isn't floating

Your float and or needle valve in your carb needs repair.

The carb is flooding. Could be caused by trash holding the needle off the seat. Try closing the fuel valve at the tank, start the engine and let it run the carb empty. Then open the fuel valve. Sometimes the trash will flush out and it will stop flooding.

Could also be a worn needle valve, loose seat, float level too high, float sunk.

The carb is simple, field serviceable. Don't be afraid of it.

Could be a number of thing wrong. You may have some dirt/rust in the carb letting the float needle leak or a bad float or you choked it way to much.
