Tractor candidate for rat rod/low rider?

I snapped a picture of the old DC Case that sits in the weeds at the neighbor's this morning when I was hauling bales off. I want it for the rear tires for my Oliver 77.
I got out and measured the axles out of pure curiosity and my mind started going all bat crap Big Daddy Roth crazy about the possibilities. Those axles are the same size as an Oliver 1600 parts tractor that I have here with 9 bolt hubs. I got to thinking 23.1 26 combine tires. The Case has a wide front,so set that out as far as it'll go with the narrowest triple rib 16 inch fronts I can find. A pair of Farmall H/M fenders,build up a frame for a Tisco new style seat,a four inch flat black boom tube...... As low as that thing sets anyway a person with some imagination and patience enough to look for parts could make quite a wild looking machine out of that old horse.

The guys here wanted to lynch Chip Foose for doing something similar to a Deere 4020 a couple years ago...

Unless you restore the tractor to perfect 100% correct original condition, be prepared to find upside-down crosses burning in your front yard on a warm evening.

I like the Idea if your going that far, why not do a motor swap,Like a chunky v8. Then go do a bit of pulling ,or crash a local car show with it, Like the Guy did with the case black night the other day.

No political correct from me here. I got a Fordson major part done, with a 150 horse turbo motor from a TR70 combine. Plus wides for all 4 corners.

Been running something through my mind along those lines too,but not with that tractor. Thinking serious about a different pickup,so the 6.9 diesel in the old Ford I'm driving now might get measured to see how well it would set in the tub of an Oliver 1600.
 
Gonna tick somebody off no matter what I do. If I haul it to the crusher two miles away I'll get death threats,but if I make something memorable out of it I'll be in trouble too. Everybody wants it saved,but nobody wants to save it. That's how it goes with all this old stuff.
 
shut up about boltin modern bulchit to a DC ... I want that dc 3 adjustable wide front here in southern ind ,, with or without wheels,, my #is in last post
 
It's your tractor for heaven's sake! Go for it! If the correct police don't like it, they don't have to look.

Ha! I was thinking something very similar but about an 1800B I've got with a bad crank. I just couldn't bring myself to put an IH motor in an Oliver. Got nothing against IH, but it just didn't feel right.

However, I seen a low rider one time, can't remember what it was, I think it was an old Farmall, where they flipped the plaetaries around. Thing sat pretty low, but looked pretty cool.

I also hate to see a good / restoration candidate get all tore up or parted out because someone "doesn't have time" and "won't sell it that cheap", but hey, it's their tractor, if I could, I'd have all those sitting at my place (probably rusting away cuz I don't have time or money).
 
My problem with that one was the outcome. How much creative talent does it take to go to an NTPA pull and take some pictures,then go back to the shop and copy every Deere puller there?
 
Every time I take my 8n LCG to a show someone will ask me why I did that to a really nice 8N. I tell them it wasn't that nice when I started and it was what I wanted to build. ( short spindles off of a 2000 LCG, 12'' front tires and 16.1 rears off of a FMC grove sprayer and the rear fenders cut out and moved down to keep them just a little higher than the fat rear tires )They look at a high crop converted 8N and never say a word but always question why I lowered one. I don't really care though. It's your tractor your time and your money do what you want. I have about zero patience with the correct police. A few years ago I sold an absolutely perfect 9N hood grill and doglegs to a fellow who took it and split it down the middle and made it fit a model A rat rod he was building. Turned out looking pretty good. So to each his own

I like it whether anybody else does or not. Some of these guys don't want them destroyed,but they sure are happy when they find one in a bone yard when they need parts.
 
If you're serious drop me an email and if he comes home to mow the lawn this weekend or something,I'll go talk to him. I'm 160 miles north of Fort Wayne if that gives you a better idea how far you'll have to come to get it.
I just don't want it sitting around my yard until the weeds grow up around it. Or at least the wife doesn't. That's pretty much why I haven't got serious about getting it before this.
I've got a lot of time on my hands to come up with ideas like this,but not much time to follow through. I've already got a few Olivers here to finish up and always looking for more. You don't have an Oliver 60 or 70 you want to trade for it do you?
 
you hit the nail on the head there I have tried to sell some tractors for scrap price here and no one wants to buy them they just tell me I shouldn't scrap them out..sometimes you cant win
 
I think it would be cool to do a rat tractor or something if a guy did a nice Job on it anything beats it coming back as a harbour freight wrench set. If the correct police dont like it they can look at plenty of factory restorations
 
That's pretty cool.
Got a question about those LCG spindles.
I know they will bolt right onto most any of the little fords but wondered about the front steering arm.
Did you have to change your tie rods at all to make them work?
I have a set of those shorty spindles off a 3 cyl 2110 LCG.
I also have a set of adapter plates that adapt an 8 on 6" wheel center to an 8 on 8" center.
I've thought about putting the shorty spindles on an 8N and a pair of 16.9X30s on the rear.

The front axle outer sections came from a 4 cylinder factory LCG. I used the stock spindles but had to cut shorten and recut the keyways and then cut the slight radius for the clamp bolts. Cut the keyways with my 1942 Atlas milling machine. I don't know if the 3 cylinders are the same but I would bet they are
 
It really does suck to see them go to the scrapper.
Sometimes they're just not worth what it takes to save them.
In our area, that tractor [i:6e24bc5426]might[/i:6e24bc5426] bring $1500 running with decent tires.
If a guy paid scrap price for it, then had to buy $800 - $1000
worth of tires he'd be over it's value before he even got it running.

My brother bought his running SC with new rear tires for $500.
Rest of his tractor is rougher than that one, but it is complete
and running. Good deal on his part I'd say!

There was a guy on eBay trying to sell one of those wide
front ends for $235. He was in Minnesota I think.
I don't see the listing anymore so maybe he sold it.

If a guy was a Case collector or was going to make something
custom out of it he might do a bit better. People pay more for paint.
Not to mention it makes a fun project!
This is not mine, but an AC B makes a really cool low rider.
Just flip the axles!

Hi sounds interesting would be an different conversion. What about finding a tub from one of those oliver/cockshutt tractors that had a perkins and putting a 6354 turbo in it, would make a good puller and very usable tractor.

I was close to getting all the parts I needed to do that when i worked in a wreckers. Then guys started to want the parts from the donors so the boss parted it all.
Just another Idea in the pot, But as said your tractor your choice. Just the same as my 500 belarus with a perk 510 V8 and my Majors Got another with just a straight6D non turbo motor, my friend built in the 70's.

yes,, rrlund , I am serious , what is your town again , , [email protected] be able to round up a 60 or 70 , used to have a 70 25 yrs ago , month ago watched a fair 770 gasser go for 12hundred because there was a racket in tranny,,,, tgonna be away from computer til maybe Saturday
