someone explain abbreviations please

I"m not to quick to pick up on abbreviations I see on here. BTW I know is "by the way", but then I see swmbo, and several others that I just can"t put my tiny brain around....

Here's a few that come to mind

SWMBO - she who must be obeyed

BTDT - been there done that

IIRC - if I recall correctly

IMHO - in my humble opinion

LOL - laughing out load

ROFLOL - rolling on floor laughing out loud

LMAO - laughing my backside off

IDK- I don"t know
FWIW- for what it"s worth
TIA- thanks in advance
AFAIK- as far as I know
IIRC- if I remember correctly
TBD- to be determined
LOL- laughing out loud
BTDT- been there, done that
or just google "acronyms" for a dictionary full...

Robert,
Now I'm really confused. I thought it went somethink like don't let the door smack you on the way out.

KIS, Let's (Keep It Simple)

I heard a story on the radio not long ago about a guy who's son started texting LOL to him,so he started using it when he texted or emailed other loved ones. Said he sent a message to his sister saying something like "So sorry that your husband left you. LOL" and things like that. When his son finally explained to him that it meant "laughing out loud" he said NO IT DOES'T! It means "lots of love". No Dad,laughing out loud.
I don't even need to tell you how embarrassed he said he was about using that one wrong.

Too funny. When our oldest daughter first started texting me a few years ago, THAT'S what I thought it meant too...Lots of Love.

LOL. Daughter thought it was funny too.

Yep... I never use that one.

Laughing out loud, or rolling on floor laughing out loud is good enough for me. :)

Sorry folks. 'texting' makes no sense to me. It takes longer than a simple phone call. Ya, I know about the 'slightly' less cost overall, AND the possibility of just an answering device, BUT for GOSH sakes it is the BIGGEST time waster ever invented by man. How has our society gotten as far as it has 'WITHOUT' the extremely expensive tools and costs? Don't do it, Won't do it. I have a cell phone that costs $11.20 per month (pay as you go) = it's PHONE, I use it so often that I have accumulated a + 12 hrs. 'talk time' NUTZ ! ! P.S. I have seen so many 'near accidents' from the use, it blows my tiny little mind, b

There was a series of books out of England, the Rumpole of the Bailey series- old curmudgeonly lawyer, not very prosperous or successful, mainly did cases on "legal aid", for indigent (and usually incompetent) crooks. He was plagued by a nagging wife who always thought she should have done better. He referred to her as She Who Must Be Obeyed, hence SWMBO, or just "She" for short. Great books, I have every one and have re-read them many times, am pleased that his expression was picked up on this board.

Our Pastor has been using SNAFU lately in his messages, I think I might just explain that one to him pretty quick before he embarrasses himself even more.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.

Where I used to work, this was standard in every memo ever distributed. It was always a laugher, especially when you saw what you had to cooperate with. Glad those days are over.

If you are not easily embarrassed/offended, just GOOGLE "internet slang" or "Urban Dictionary".

Remember, I WARNED you!

I have heard good polite folks use the military ones in what should be considered to clean conversation. Fact sometimes the military ones are used in the media

Hi George, A guys just got to be careful what words he types on line these days, it offends some people on the net apparently, and guys disappear if people are offended by the posts . I know all the sayings here and more besides, but some days it's better to keep quiet. Today would be one of them, that it's probably not appropriate to discuss some of those sayings in depth.
Regards Robert

My dad never swore, and that was Situation Normal All Fouled Up, as far as he was concerned. That was before the days of Fouled Up Beyond All Recognition, which started in the Vietnam era.

SWMBO is a term that moved upstairs from Tales.

Sometimes you can't know the definition without a dictionary. Thankfully, Fawteen has one on his website...and here's the link to it:

Kim rarely poofs my posts. So far she has been kind to me, never heard from her. Political issues will get you in trouble more than KIS, keep it simple. By the way I left the last letter off, S, so I wouldn't offend Stupid people.
