OT: Auto insurance

Didn't want to highjack the other thread.

With the comments on the other thread about the numbers of uninsured on the road this may be information that could be important to you and your family.

Some states allow "stacking" policies. If you have more than one vehicle insured you are allowed to stack your personal injury protection (PIP). If you have 100K coverage and 2 vehicles insured with stacking you now have 200K PIP. MN requires the agency tell you about it and most often the companies will send out notice too. It's normally a couple of bucks a month extra but if you or a passenger are severely injured it can be a life saver. Check your policies and if you are not "stacked" contact your agent and ask about it.

Thanks for the info, I plan to call my agent on Monday to check it.

That post on auto insurance got me to thinking though. 50 state insurance commissioners, staffs, agencies, approval processes, computer systems, sure seems like a very costly redundantcy. I sure hope states are sharing best practices and software development costs. I am enough of a realist to know that the parties in power, the lobbiests and the politicos, would fight any move to streamline the system, if their job, appointees or gravy train was on the line.
No wonder most states are running in the red.
Example: Why couldn't a state insurance cooperative between N&S Dakota, Nebraska and Kansas share laws, staffs and systems????

Edd, because they all have different laws.

Yea, Why? What is the real difference to you and me, the purchaser? Just job justification. I have lived in 10 states, just paid the bill and got coverage. Difffernt state rules but same insurance, same company for 50 years.
