lower gears in IH M

can someone tell me the trick to getting the lower gears out of the IH M, or how I need to do it. Got the top out but having problems with the lower THANKS

The Low first gear factory option is the only solution (other than having a ring and pinion set made at extreme cost)
The low first is a gear actually cut into the counter shaft, and thus requires a donor tractor with that option. I do not think other options exist. Possibly using the planetaries from a 600 (or something) on the rear hubs could be used, but it would not look stock. Jim

he wasn't asking about lower ground speed gears he was asking how to remove the bottom gears and shaft from the trans case.

With top shaft out, get the slotted nut lose on the front of the countershaft. Remove PTO and the retaining ring for rear countershaft bearing. Remove parts to slide the clutch and brake operating shaft to one side. Drive countershaft rear bearing from shaft out toward the back. Finish removing the front nut and the front bearing retainer with seal. Move countershaft to rear and tilt front up and remove.

I've got the same issue, but with an H. I knida figured out the procedure you just described, but no luck with mine. It's like those gears are all part of the shaft.

Gears are pressed on the shaft. Just enough room to remove countershaft with gears complete after removing the rear bearing and sliding the shaft back out of the front bearing.

D Slater what is the trick for driving countershaft wheel bearing from the shaft without messing up the bearing? I got everything else loose as you suggested. Thanks for you help.

Not easy to get at. I use a long bar that's bent on the end and shaped to contact the inner race for driving them off. Long enough to reach through the input shaft hole if split, or out the top if not. Keep turning the shaft to hit the other side of the race after a blow. Most are not very tight. Sometimes get a tough one.

Mine had a snap ring that had to come off before the bearing could be removed, and I had to use a gear puller.

Yes I mentioned remove the rear countershaft bearing retaining ring in my first post. guess I could have made that more clear.
