IH 1086 needs engine

I have an IH 1086 that needs an engine overhaul, or, preferably, a used engine if I can find a decent one. I was told by one of the salvage yards that it has a 436 engine and something out of a 1460 combine would work with minimal parts to swap out. Other info that I am finding says the 1086 came out with a 414 engine. Can someone steer me in the right direction? If it is factory with a 414.....will a 436 go in? What combine models (or other machines) would have a suitable replacement engine?
Thanks

Most common engine out there.. DT 414,436 or 466 all share the same looks and parts. all that changes is bore and stroke. You could use a truck engine with minor changes but should be able to find a running take out but better to build your engine if your block is good. Two thousand will do just about everything, liners, pistons, rings, bearings ect. Where are you located?

The 1440,1460 and the 1480 and the early 16 series combines all use the 400 series engines.

You may have to use some mounting brackets from your 1086 engine to mount a combine engine in the 1086.

The 966,1066 1466,1566,986,1086,1486,1586, and all the 2+2 series tractors had the 400 series engine as well.

I put 915 combine engines in my 766 and 886. It's the same engine that came out in your 1086, except for some details such as pump settings and external accessories, front cover, oil pan, things like that. A lot of combine engines don't have a lot of hours on them.

The one big red flag that comes up in my mind with a combine engine is has it been run hot, and if so how many times? Jim
