Vacuum sealer doesnt seal used bags anymore, only new ones. Do you guys reuse bags or am I being cheap? What brand do you guys use, mine is a foodsaver, but would like a new one.

Sounds like a good chance to get food poisoning, all it takes is just a speck of the previous contents. Some things are just meant to be used once... A few other items come to mind.

Bought a new 'Foodsaver' last year. Works great. The 'bride did the 'save the used units' thing (every time she goes to see our kids 'up north' I throw out about 100 yoghurt containers and about 8# of plastic bags -recycle of course). I tried reusing the Foodsaver bags with NO success = recycle. HTH

Not much help on the bags but I will say try to store what you can in mason jars. You can reuse them forever and the lids last a long, long time. I dont have a traditional food vacuum sealer, I have an HVAC vac pump and I use a Food Saver Jar Sealer. Fill your jar, set a lid on it, put on the Food Saver lid and start the vac pump. When vacuum is reached, remove the hose and take the lid off, the mason jar lid will stay sealed. I put a screw on lid afterword but I dont think its needed.

I have been testing food stored in vacuumed jars for over a year now, great results.

Have a food saver. We use Kenmore bags. They seem to better than food saver brand. KMart sells them. Cheaper than F S too. Don't re-use though.

Foodsaver here also.

Wife re-uses them until they get down to a size that she deems not worth fooling with. She turns them wrong side out and runs them thru the dishwasher, just like the rest of the stuff we eat off of.

I've noticed that you sometimes have to seal the used bags twice in the same spot to get good closure.

I never had good luck with the food saver brand. Too cheap. Biggest problem we had with them was when trying to seal multiple bags it would over heat and not work till it cooled off. So we went to several of them to speed up production. Seems like they failed at the most in opportune time.

I have a big garden and try to freeze enough vegetables to get us through the year. With all the different foods we freeze that ends up being upwards of 300 qts.

I bought a Vac Master commercial chamber type vacuum sealer. It will seal a bag of liquid such as soup or tomatoe sauce etc. We sealed 230 quarts of sweet corn this year, all in about 3-4 hours, without any problem.
