How much corn can I haul in a ih 1600 loadstar from like the 60s! And are parts easy to get? Looking for a small dump truck yea I know I can go newer but I like the looks of those old trucks! And besides the rest of my stuff is old so it should fit right in!

The truck is junk check to see how much of the firewall is there the steering has on 350 PSI and is hard to steer the brakes will almost stop it. We several at the base they were terrible always in the shop for something.

Kinda depends on how long and tall the bed is. probably 8 to 10 ton. but that is a bit much....But hey, most all old farm trucks are way overloaded, especially during harvest. But that doesnt make it right......My '68 Chevy C50 has a 12 box 4 1/2 deep.If I pile it in on,it will hold a bit over 8 ton.Too much!I try to keep between 6 and 7 ton.

That is funny in the 60s and 70s we had 1600 hundreds and 1700 hundreds and they were head and shoulders ahead of the fords and chevs. other farmers had. Sixteen foot Omaha beds would get just over 300 bu. of corn or beans. 345 ih v8 gas engine are long life engines and I can,t remember the brakes not being good.

Internationals are good truck had 3 of them all the old style with the gull wing hood usually hauled about 19000 gvw they run good and simple to work on I'd take one over any cheby or ferd

I had 2, both set up to haul a bit over 400 bushel of corn so I got 1 dryer full from each load. That made them a bit over loaded for legal, but they handled it fine. No brake problems and those 345 ih engines were good.

Dunno about the Chevys but those 1600 Binders were mostly no better or worse than a Ford.
Same exact Eaton rear axle, same Bendix hydrovac and brake parts, FWD front axle, and I think Clark transmissions.
As said that 345 was bullet proof.
And the gullwing hood was beautiful. PIA to change a water pump or timing chain on but far superior to the other two in looks.

Those IH V8s used gears, not chains. A little thirsty but great engines. I used to drive Scouts. Had one with a 345 4 bbl. I could start in third and take it to over 60 before shifting to fourth.

Yes the Loadstars are a good truck and will take a lot of abuse from careless operators. A 1600 series like mine is usually rated around the 20,000 GVW but it can vary with tire, spring and axle options. Mine has the 8x15 grain box which easily holds 350 bushels wheat. Yes, that is way over the GVW by about 10,000 pounds but the truck did it for years and no problems. And it is just a little 304 engine under the hood. Can't comment on corn as we don't grow any here.

Hi
What you got to remember is comments from guys on how good they were in the day aren't really valid today. they are 50 years old and have been mostly beat to death. I drove a newer one for a guy as a back up truck at harvest it was a flip front from say the 70's think it held 300 bu or so with 15 or 16ft box . it was ok for what we used it for.
The boss declined to buy it, as it needed government inspection that was gonna cost a fortune, on change of ownership.
We were told that some parts are not available new and that was more than 6 years ago now.
It could be a good truck or just a bad experience money pit. That should be scrapped if you get unlucky.
Regards Robert

i have a mid 70 IH 1800, with a 404, which i have been told is hard to get parts for... struggled to find a light switch for my old girl, ended up using a cheap generic one, had to modify the wiring some..., and i added a 12 volt electric fuel pump instead of the engine driven one, makes for easier starting...
