Working on the plows (reconditioninig them)

With in this past year I have been learning about the old plows. Question I have found the shear numbers on a shear. What I would like to know is what or where I can find these shears that I am looking for. I have this number 0562 R.T solids this is stamped on them. I am looking for the left ones which should be stamped 0563 solid L.T I need two of those for the left plows. Yes that is corect it is a I.H roll over two way M 39 plows. Are the shears on the plows molded ? can they be made up from a black smith? Or does any body out here have any of these there just dieing to sell. Hey if you trip over one of these please let me know thanks Brent

Are you working on more than 1 plow, or 1 rollover plow?

A plow has shares and moldboards. Just trying to understand what you are working on.

I have been working on a two plow two way. I H plows model 39. The part I am looking to find are the bottom shares. The right ones have a nuber of 0562, the left ones on the bottom are to be the number of 0563. (shares)It looked liked when they make them they are in a mold or casting because they are a one solid peace. I would like to replace my broken ones that means i would like to buy some. Thanks..

Hey thanks I knew that I got the word wrong.Do you know of any body who might have any of these parts for sale. Thanks Brent

Little bit off the subject from what you are restoring, but wonder if you can still buy the plastic cover boards for the Super Chief type plows? I have a semi-mounted 4-16 that could use a set if they are not outrageously expensive.

Have you tried a CaseIH dealer?

I'm not familiar with the plow you are working on but it seems that IH used the same frog or at least bolt pattern on a number of plows. On my plow I can use 16" or 18" points. one side had 16 and the other 18 - all I could get in a hurry.

You and about 1000 other people are looking for good parts for these types of plows.

Nobody is making new replacement parts for them at this time AFAIK.

You can swap out the old bottoms for newer Super Chief bottoms, both left and right, but it will cost thousands of dollars to do it with new parts. Just frogs were $485 each last I checked.

An alternative would be to find an old plow with Super Chief bottoms on it, and perform a transplant. Though, even replacing wear parts can be pricey. Just shares and shins for my 3-bottom Super Chief ran me $120 the other day.

Beyond that, all you can do is watch and wait.
